To alot of you this may not come as any big surprise, to others it may just be a fact that you've accepted and there are those of you who are sitting there reading this thinking, " I remember when I had a bill like that." Well to all of you, I just received my bills and the gas and electricity have just knocked me out. I really can't afford to be paying such extortionate bills. Can someone please recommend something; some how or some way of reducing these crazy bills. I will be in your debt....

Dude it's costing me £550-600 every 3mths and thats just the elecy.
I don't sell a gram of mine so the way i weigh it up is the the amount your saving in the long run.

If not look into getting a solar panel depending on where you are you may be able to get a grant.
That way you can get the free elecy your after.

Don't go the way that alot off ppl do and bypass the meter because your just asking to get bit in the arse.

Best of luck either way dude

At the min a solar pannel including fitting is around 8 - 10 grand, we fit them at work. It would save you a bit of money.

Practical ideas are light movers instead of lot's of lights, use cold air from outside to cool the room, use warm air from the houses central heating to warm it up. If you are using activie hydroponics with pumps move to soil, use normall tap water instaed of RO water. Use cfl's if it is that bad. Loads of idea's i can go all night.

OOOOOOO i missed a really good one well two. Always use thermostats and run lights on a night so you don't have to heat the grow room.

Come on that must be +REP.

DONT BYPASS THE METER.

Change every single light bulb you have in the house to CFL. Saved me 200 on electricity. Turn tv off when going out of room, and as for gas don't take very long showers.

There is also econemy 7 that you can have that is used for charging storage heaters but this would be a bit pricey to install.

Dont know about the grant buddy, maybe for council dwelling and the elderly.

Econemy 7 is for people who dont have gas in there house, you have a special metre fitted and you charge big metal radiators that are full of bricks up on a night. They normall pull 2 to 3 kw a piece and normally about 3 to 4 a house.

Because people dont use electricity on a night you can have the electric at a reduced rate otherwise it would be wasted (they still have to have the powerstation running).

Dont know if u understand what i have just typed but it sounded right in my head.

Ok here's the science part...

Showers are taken at the gym, on a daily basis. Why else pay £69 a month).
TV is never used, it's on stand by.
Already using soil.
Currently have 5 x 600watt (sunmaster) bulbs runining.
Stopped usibg the water oxygenator (great idea, that one...lol).
Have a 5" Carbon Filter going 24/7.
Have 2 stand up fans, and a small desk one going 18 and 12 hrs respectively.
Have a 30watt 3m flourescent going 24/7.
Have turned 2 radiators off, leaving 7 going at least 10 hrs.
Have a small electrical heater going 14hrs.
Use tap water like it's going out of fashion (luckily no water meter).
Have two Lap tops going 24/7.

Gas - £420
Elecy - £307

Won't by pass, but please help.....

Read that bit what i said, use light movers to cut the amount of lights you need, have the lights on at night so you can fuck the heater off. Put the fans on a timer 10mins on 10 mins off. Link the extraction upto a timer 15mins every half hour. Its easy.

Turn the laptops off.

Put flourescent on 18/6.

Get a better boiler, or turn the heating off when your not there.

From what it looks like you will be reaping the rewards sooner or later, it a pretty decent setup. Your not just growing 4 or 5 plants are you.

Remember apart from the lights you can cut times in half on everything by 10 mins on 10mins off, and light movers are about £120.
