How much water in reservoir?

I have an ebb and flow system that has a 20 gallon reservoir and a tray that will hold 4 plants. Is there a formula I use to calculate how much water to use in the reservoir to feed only 4 plants? For example, 1 gallon per plant ...

I seem to remember reading in one of Al B's posts minimum of 5/liters per plant. Im using that and dont seem to have much trouble. But the bigger the tank the less often you will need to clean and change nutes.

Thank you ... that's gives me a place to start.

its real simple, theres no math or conversion charts or any of that shit. you need enough nute solution in the rez to fill your flood table to your desired depth and still have enough in the rez so your pump wont run dry.

my 3x3 tray uses a 25 gallon rez

Ok ... that raises another question ... if my reservoir has more water than my tray will hold, what keeps the tray from over filling? Do I just run the system just long enough to fill the tray?

Thanks.

i have a stand pipe or overflow tube. it sits right next to the fill fitting and is as tall as i want my tray to fill up. water fill the tray from the first fitting and when the tray fills to the desired height the solution spills into the rez below.

otherwise get a digital timer and time your pump to see how long it take to fill and set it to that time.
