I'm not a newbie but I have a question re watering and pot size. When I use 5 gal Smart pots they get a gallon when I use 3 gal Smartpots they too get a gal. So far I haven't ran into any problems, but would like some educated opinions. Thank you

Well the plant seems to require different amounts of H20 throughout it's life cycle. As it get's larger it requires more, until the end when it seems to want just a little less. A good way to water correctly is to water to saturation, pick up the bucket/planter and remember how heavy it feels. Then wait til it dries out some and you'll feel the difference. Must have changed watering techniques eh?

That's a pretty good idea, haven't heard of that technique. This is how i do it anyway. I water my plant and stop just as i see the first bit of run off water. Then i don't water it again until it dries out, I just stick my finger in the soil about an inch down, and if it's dry then i'll water it. I let it go through wet and dry cycles and it seems to do the job.
