How often do autoflowers, autoflower?

1. How frequently do autoflower plants reliably exhibit their autoflowering trait?
2. What is the average autoflowering rate you have personally observed?
3. In your opinion, which breeders stand out as the best when it comes to autoflower plant genetics?

I ask because I see a lot of autoflower questions that are reveg. I have had 2 or 3 outta ten be photo as well.

1 most of the time only had one not auto flower. 2 indoors usually around 3 weeks outdoors 4 or 5 weeks they always take longer to flower for me outside I think because of less hours of light. Had a purple kush auto show white hairs in two and a half weeks. 3 for me personally sweet seeds, Dr krippling seeds, seed stockers and dinafem seeds now out of business.

Proper autos should all be daylight neutral or something aint right you do get things called semi autos but in reality those are just extremely photo sensitive early flowering strains not true autos if your auto seeds dont auto id suspect you got the wrong seeds who knows tho

ive had differant seeds from top breeders/seed banks, so its not unherd of.
most auto's ive grown start to flower at two weeks old, but not grown many
as conor c mentioned, theres super auto's/xxl autos (both the same, just differant names for selling) both semi autos that flower at about 4 weeks or later

Never had an auto fail to flower or reveg, been seeing a hell of a lot on FB groups this year. I think alot of that is because those groups are filled with mods who are pollen chuckers selling their shitty ‘genetics’ to unknowing rookie growers.
Not really an auto grower, i prefer photos. Here are the ones I’ve personally done and would recommend:

Night owl
Barneys
Dutch Passion
Gnome

I did an atlas grease gun i got from a freebie and was honestly impressed. Only one ive done by them so i couldnt say whether or not they are consistent

Its a bigger gamble with autos , since not only are there parental lines of strain , it has ruderalis in the mix ( something of a third wheel genetic ) used for the day neutral and fast bloom characteristics BUT it also brings even more attributes ( some not wanted ) - Weak genetic crosses - mutations - unworked or first generation “ autos “ and a host of odd things.

Autos can run completely different from each other - even from same seed batch. Had good ones - Had bad ones …. It is to be expected. There are now certain breeders that “ work the lines “ better for more stability and consistency. Had one auto begin flower at day22 from germ - nothing i could do about it - probably a dwarfy cut .

First auto i grew was white label seeds super skunk (in breeder pack) and it autoflowered perfectly in middle of summer. Was also impressed with the quality considering it was autoflower and so many people talk them down. This was like 8 years ago, so if auto's were already good back then can only imagine they are even better and more reliable.

I've been growing indoor Auto's since 2018 from Crop King, Pacific Seed bank, and more recently from Coastal Mary. 2 - 3 different plants each time. Of the dozen+ so far, every one of them has auto flowered. The only issue I've come across so far is a couple of seeds that didn't pop. Some partly due to lack of experience and some just dud seeds.

I grew probably 20 autoflowers, mostly by mephisto (love em), some others that I got as freebies (seedsman and mnsl).
All of them were true autoflowers, flowering trigger varied between strain, but in line with other answers here.
I can wholeheartedly recommend Mephisto, they only work with the best cuts of photos to start with and then go all the way to F5/6/7 to ensure quality outcomes. Didn't have a single strain that disappointed, but if you can get your hands on their Mango Smile, you should go for it ;)
Heard good things about Nightowl and the internet seems to be flooded by FastBuds

Whats their mango smile like? I’m very tempted to grow one out! Looking for an energising strain to get me thru the day!

Definitely energizing, one to immediately put a smile on my face, kind of festival vibes good mood. Lifted but still clear. Also a favourite of everyone I shared it with. Smell is more cheesy than Mango to me, but I harvested in summer, so the myrcene probably just got lost. All around great buzz with almost no side effects (for me). Very gentle let-down also.

Cheers man!

Sounds ideal to me! I may just go for it next run!

For me my daytime smoke is fastbuds green crack. Sounds just like what you described here!

You returned, I wondered how the first one came out haha.

Gorgeous plant!! Nicely done!

What are the terpenes like? I’ve seen a few mixed results just wanted to hear your experience.

Cheers!

Very oily and dense terps…they are in the “swelling up” phase now. I will give them a final defoliation next week to expose buds presently in the interior of the plant and will post some more pics afterwards.

amazing what ya can grow in a tub…

LIKE to throw in an auto with the photo's so I can have a harvest before the big one - run with with the the same light cycle as photo's > Now if you were going to run all autos you will get a extra harvest every year. running photo's one can get 3 harvested a yr - autos 4 harvest a year

I've only grown a handful of autos personally, and they all autoflowered. HOWEVER in my last 15 years on this site I've watched tons(probably hundreds) of people that have "autoflower" plants that don't start flowering until the photoperiod has been switched.

Harvests per year comes down to planning, not whether your plants are photos or autos. If you stage things properly you can have many harvests per year, especially if youhave multiple lights/tents/rooms. Even with just one flower room/light I used to be on a 3-week cycle with a perpetual grow, so in 52 weeks, I harvested roughly 17 times a year.

Also autos aren't usually much if any faster to finish then photo plants, so you aren't saving any time, just spending extra money on lighting them for longer hours per day. So again no extra harvests per year.
