How small of a grow space for one plant?

Im thinking of attempting a grow inside my cupboard with about 42" of height including pot depth and about 18" by 18 " wide. would this be enough for a single plant? Training or no training? Topping? I did okay out doors and i've started plants inside but never flowered. I still need a better light than the 92Watts of CFLs, I was thinking of getting a 600Watt LED light off of amazon if anyone has any recommendations. As for strain i was going for a low odor variety by Heavyweight seeds. their Wipeout Express Auto seemed to be the perfect plant for my setup. I do plan to buy a tent in a few months with a nice carbon scrubber but after harvesting outdoors Im ready to get back at it! If anyone has any advice or input to my idea id appreciate it!

18x18" is good for 1 plat. Most use 1x1 ft sq(or 12x12") per plant as rule of thum. I feel 1.5x 1.5 is perfect. As for light, check out HGL Quantom Boards. Get the 100 or 135 watt and you'll love it. As for training on autos and topping id wait till you get a few grows with them first. Instead just tie them down and space them out to let the lower branches reach up. As far as your seed choice, for Autos there is a few top breeders that specialize and than others that just make them. Id stick to Mephisto or Dinafem. Notch below them id concider Sweet Seeds, Fast Buds or Dutch Passion. These are the top breeders that actually work hard on the best products. Others make them but don't put as much as the above do IMO. Don't skimp on genetics or lights with autos or you'll be complainging about how bad autos suck for getting a few grams when itll only be because you were cheap and didnt care to begin with on killing it with the right lights/genes if you were willing to get them. Good luck and keep posted. Hope i can help if you have more questions.

The 100 watts at 3000k for veg and flowering are sold out which says something. This light vegs 3x3 and flowers 2x2/2.5x2.5. Its an amazing light for the cost. $25 extra if you dont want to assemble yourself(like me XD) but its actually easy from what i hear. If you get those Amazon purples, they will grow but they are not really 600, more like 250-300 wayys and will put out alot of heat in that little space. The QB is top quality led and cool to the touch.

I'd use a shallow pot with soil, I found if you tie em down height not much different in sativa and indica, air cooled lights help(as long as sound ain't a problem) as you can get light close to pot and prevent stretch, also bit more red in veg keeps nodes close, also keep night and day temps close as this keeps nodes close too

So I shouldn’t get the Amazon lights? I was going to put fans inside the space and it’s about to get rather chilly in my room due to winter so shouldn’t it balance out? I was thinking of adding in the 3 32W 6500k CFL lights I have? Also have 2 26W 3200k CFL LIGHTS? I was going to use these till the light gets in. I still need to order seeds, really prefer low odor till I get a tent.

The thing is if you are eventually going to upgrade why buy lesser tier lights when you will eventually ditch the one you plan to buy cause its cheap? Like i said they will grow but purple amazon lights are not the best. You would be even better going to home depot or walmart and buying screw in led bulbs(just like cfl) and taking the casing off them than amazon led and cfls. Also low odor has nothing to do with lower quality genetics.

Buy the tent and carbon scrubber first. I grew northern lights, which is considered "low odor" and it was still obvious to anyone with any sense of smell. May have had less smell than others but still clearly pot growing in the house.

I’ve grown dinafem Cheese XXL auto so I know they have good strong genes. I’m just looking for good genes with low odor or at least something that doesn’t smell quite like pot.

As the above poster said, NL has low odor and you named it yourself, Cheese strains usually don't smell much. NL is usually easy to grow as well.

Look around in cab growing section for ideas. Plenty of stoner invention to be seen there. Here's my veg cab for reference. I've changed it up since then but don't have any pics. This is in the unfinished loft above my grow room. Warmer and higher RH up in the loft for veg. Works great.

You have options for micro / closet type grows .... if product you seek is a more compact plant ..
Look at low Ryder’s / dwarf cuts / hybrid ... Bomb seeds make some plants , speed seeds are another. You can do simple LST ( Tie branches to shape ) to control height.

If you look into a QB ( as stated above ) you will not outgrow it , it will a light that you can ADD too.
It will have better heat control than some blurple light sweating it out in a closed area.
You will be surprised how a simple 135 watt quantum board will grow a plant in that small area compared to ANY blurple from amazon. ( not throwing any shade on blurple , been there done that myself , years back ... lol ) ... but looking at which light will be better suited LOCKED UP.

You can use a simple oscillating fan to exchange air and cooling. The quantum can be dimmed for any power level desired AND heat issue . Plus they are flat ... meaning you DO NOT LOSE cabinet / closet height.

Do buy at least a 4" filter and fan now. I got mine for about $60 combined and it kept the smell down a lot. I was growing Tangerine Dream from Growers Choice. I picked that because of low smell and NL as well but the NL didn't germ right. I will try again with NL and TD this next time.

Will just having the filter fan in the "chamber" im growing in be enough without the tent? The space isnt air tight.

The idea is to have negative air pressure in the chamber/cabinet/tent. vent the air out of it, and then the filter will extract the smell. Even if you don't vent the filter will do it's work.

Carbon filters work wonders. Every time I open my tent the smell is so potent. Without that scrubber my house would smell really bad. I smell zero with the filter on 24/7.
