Hey i got a 4'' inline fan and carbon filter deal for $120 from htgsupply.com and was wondering how i am going to change the activated charcoal inside in 12-18 months.. it looks like it is very well put together with rivets and it is all metal.. does not look easy to change. Has anyone bought one of these and perhaps has some experience and could lend a hand?

I don't have the product but I have dealt with the HTG guys in the past( do almost all my shopping there). Give them a call or write an email to them. They are extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with.
Good Luck.

re-packing is rare and needs to be done at the factory, most people just replace the whole filter.

Wow thats fucking retarded considering how expensive these things are. the carbon costs nothing. I am determined to not be sucked into the revolving cycles of shit. Its like buying a new vacuum cleaner that your going to have to buy bags for, for the rest of your life.

Not really, the filters have different sized pieces of carbon packed in a way that provides maximum air-flow and odor control. The cost of re-packing would probably be considerable. Poorly packed filters are not worth it IMO they don't last as long.

Alright well thank you for your continued help, i will just have to buy a replacement. BTW the one i have hooked up.. i can still smell a feint skunk smell when disconnect the exhaust and smell it. Is this normal and it doesnt 100% get rid of smell? Its hooked up perfect and has improved my condition by like 95% so i am still satisfied just a lingering question though.

Those HTG $120 packages are a joke. I bought one about 3 months ago just for S&G. Do yourself a favor and throw it out. If you think that is an expensive setup, your a little lost. Just my filters that I replace every year or so are $250. Also the reason you still have the funk in the exhaust is the fan they mate with the filter is better used as an in room scrubber than an exhaust setup. I do have to say that there are a few DIY's ive seen for making your own carbon filters and if $$ is an issue for you I would build your own filter and use it with the fan that you already have. IMHO i bet a homemade one would work far better that the HTG setup! Not saying it would fix your problem %100 but those cheap filters just do not work well. I have been using CAN filters for 2 years now and have 0 odor. There are however several other manufacturers or carbon filters that work just as well, feel free to PM me with any questions you might have!

Well for a replacement what is a decent price filter? Could u link me one and i will look into it? ty
Depends on the size of the filter but just like the others I recommend a CAN brand filter. They are very high quality and will eliminate 100% of odor, I have a CAN filter that has an oversized fan and is too big for my space. I still have zero odor out of the exhaust. I'll be upgrading next harvest because a few hundred dollars is worth having 100% odor control

I will replace my existing Can66 with another Can66. It's worked like a charm, so $200 a year for total odor control is EASY to budget. That's $ well spent imo.
