There must be a safe way of doing it..
Ya go buy stuff at the store to do it the right way like a big boy. If you cant afford to get lights how do you figure you can afford to grow? Growing takes money to keep going and if your trying to diy the first and most basic component of your grow id say just wait until you can afford to invest in a real grow. Or grow outside which costs much less than indoor growing. Auto seeds are like 7-8 bucks a piece and availible from bonza seeds pick and mix style. Autos only grow like two-three feet high and are real easy to hide in a back yard. Just dont rig up some wild setup and burn down your house please.

That's NOT arrogance just good advice....
Being a prick isn't good advice. Answering a question with an irrelevant answer is also not good advice. They make Ballasts that are designed to power 2 - 600W Bulbs. Im looking for one that is designed to power 4 - 250 W bulbs for an experiment in vertical growing in combination with LED cobs. It was a simple question that only needed a simple answer. There are kits out there that safely do this. Ive seen it in green houses before.

Why would you want 4 250s? Get one 1000 bulb. 250s~30000lumens x4 =120000lumens
1 1000w =155000lumens plus thouies are cheap compared to other bulbs

My advice is realistic. It wasnt ment to offend you although i can see how it would have. Ballasts hold enough energy after being shut off to kill you if you touch the wrong thing on the inside. Just a heads up. So thats why I suggest buying new gear instead of asking people on a weed forum how to do complex electrical conversions. ;)

This could work but generally with a magnetic ballast, since it just burps out power without knowing how it is returned. If your ballast is digital, your ballast will probably "feel" a disturbance in how it ought to run and go into safe mode. Take your 4 sockets and wire nut the black wires with a big blue wire nut from the hardware store to the black wire on your ballast's output cord. When wire all the whites together and then all the greens together and see what happens. If you wire it right there shouldn't be any risk of explosion on the ballast or any other components. To be safe you could plug it in to an extension cord and power it up from a distance. Good luck with your endeavors.
