how to heat winter grow shed

WEll folks I'm starting to build a shed to grow in for the winter. Looking to convert all my grow rooms from the house into this shed. The shed will end up being 7'×12'×8' fully sealed and insulated, floor, walls, roof, the whole 9. I'll have four 3'×3' tents inside. Two will be flower rooms with 600w HIDs or 400s and the other two will be for clone and veg with t5's.

So now that I have the set up all planned I need to start thinking about heat. And as it gets below 0°F some nights in my area I need a heater that does the job well. I was thinking of just a 1500watt space heater. Not sure how this will work so I need some back up plans people! Any creative/cheap/diy heating ideas? Thanks

Why don't you just exhaust the air from the lights back into the room when it gets cold? With 2 600's you should have no problem keeping a room that size at 72. During flower you might just need to put small portable radiator on wheels in there. Make sure all your insulation is good, should be fine unless it gets below zero all the time.

Hi I don't get down to that temp over winter but I use a oil heater + fans set with a thermostat watt control the room temp. My room size is 8x10x8 but any heater can be plug in to it works great

Have one of the flower rooms on during the day exhausting into the shed and one on at night exhausting into the shed.
If the insulation is decent it should stay cozy in the shed all day.

if you really need an easy fix try hanging/fixing 2-3 hairdryers and hooking them up to timers.
I blow hot air into my intake fan for my tent when it gets below 20 degrees in my tent.

See guys ..raise the room temp

you raise the relative humidity (damp in the air)

which leads to molds

which brings in even more shit!

You must plan for this

double check your ventilation math

and have a good understanding of the BTU

(british thermal unit)

I am in a similar situation, and i have noticed condensation on the tent walls when lights go on.................need to remedy this, 20 degrees outside. from 5pm to 11 am daily here atm. That lil radiator looks fucken swwet, may i ask its price and max space it will heat up brothah?

Yeah, your lights should heat it up enough when they're running but you'll need heat during dark periods. Any thermostatically controlled unit with proper BTU's will work. My only concern about growing in a shed is that people will see you going in and out a lot. Do you have neighbors or do you a private entrance/exit?

I like those long baseboard heaters with the variac thermostats, they are quiet, and can keep the heat in a tight range, let us know what you chose to do,, be fun to see what you set up

Looks like the main concern is heating up the room when lights are oFF. So the plan will be to run one flower room during the day and the other at night. Then for back up I'll get the space heater that kicks on if Temps get too low. Maybe around 65°F?

Fortunately the sheds being build in the garage so nobody has to know whats goingon inside

And for the extra humidity this will create I can get good sized humidifier to take care of that.

Thanks everyone you've been alot of help! Have started building today. Got the floor done and two walls complete after work. Should have it up and a roof on in 1-2 days!

Well if you have the $$ you could try a portable heater/cooler with a built in de-humidifier or straight up use an ozone de-humidifier. I have a portable lg that is 1500 btu from the depot for $500. Keeps my moisture at about 40-30%. Works like a champ, plus it has temp settings so it shuts off when it needs too.

I would add if you go that route with a dehumidifier like the lg you need to buy some rubber hose to hook to the water pan outlet so that it can dump the water. I just have it pointed down a nearby drain. The ozone ones work great but they can be pretty pricey....and I think they dry the air to much.

I just grabbed a 50$ ceramic heater from home depot.. Its great, digital thermostat I keep @ 70 .. It handles my 12x12 room with no problems when lights off.

I would recommend spray foam insulation for walls and ceiling.as for the floor as I built a room in my shed,i put the blue board r-10 insulation 4x8 sheet down on floor and covered with plywood.i don't get to zero maybe teens sometimes..gl

Portable heater,i have just bought two portable pipes,same has central heating pipes just plug them in.

far cheaper then the heating fans these eat electric

Where did you get these pipes? Are they light the greenhouse heating pipes?

b and q in there brilliant,go for the water one's they are far cheaper then the oil one's there about 20 quid but portable and perfect to put really close to the plants.

Well here's a pic of the shed from two days ago. Yesterday I got the roof put together and got it in place. Want to get the rest of the plywood done today and the door on. Been a good little project. Hoping to finish or be close to finishing it this weekend!

Lights on a few incandescent bulbs ,lights off a water or oilfilled radiation heater.simple as that.
