well first off thats not a cool tube just an air cooled reflector, secondly when you buy the ballast you can just upgrade to that reflector and save a few bucks, At most your looking at installing the socket using a few small bolts. I would not expect to need to rewire anything.

Good Luck

that wire will most likely plug right into your ballast replacing your current cordset entirely. Just cal them and ask them, calling can save you a few bucks too. the guys at HTG are super helpfull and very easy to work with.

Good Luck

thanks p@ssword i will do that i was thinking of asking for the discounted price since i have made purchases in the past. The ballast cords run into it so will i have to take the ballast apart if i go with the cooltube? oh nevermind i guess these are questions i could ask them. well in your opinion which one should i get?

yeah i can only really give you guesses about this stuff call them for real answers. Be sure to mention that your a repeat customer when you call and i'm sure that they will give you a break.

you could always just remove the wire and socket and bolt your old one into the new reflector, might be a little harder with the cool tube. Decideing which to get is a toughie, i had a diy cooltube for awhile that i made from a pyrex bake-a-round, it worked alright, but it was much smaller diameter then a real cool tube and i think that was holding me back. Also i had no internal reflector so that sucked ass. But that one looks nice.

I now use a reflector nearly identical to the one in your original post, works great after you go over all the seams with foil tape to prevent air leaks.

No matter what you choose you will be happy i'm sure.

Another possibility would be buying a pyrex bakearound and using that as a cool tube. If you would like to have a reflector added to it buy some sheet metal at a hardware store and paint it with elastomeric paint(90% reflectivity) it will out perform most commercial reflectors... minus those made with german aluminum.
