hi this is my first grow and these 8 seeds have been in soil for 4 days i am in the process of getting something built for my cfl bulbs for vegetation but this is where i am at with the seedlings. Any input on exhaust, soil and nutrient suggestions, (they're in potting soil mix right now which i am in the process of mixing some sand and dirt with potting soil mix, and
earthworm casting and seaweed, but i am still trying to find out where i can get some of those 3 gallon plastic nursery pots for cheap???? because i am on a tight budget right now with me buying the hps lamp and what not, and any help with the light distance from the plants would be helpful for my further growing. thanks and many more pictures to come...:bigjoint:

go dig a hole where clay is, make rough clay pot out of them, let them dry, then fire them, could use a metal trash can, (put pot inside the trash can and fill it with wood part and burn for a couple of hours), the lights i'm talking about are like 10 each super cheap just like add two to your grow

Being a LB grower also, i found that visiting construction sites or sites where they are doing landscaping is the best way to get some decent pots. Most landscapers (at least around here) just throw the pots away once the tree/shrub is planted. i managed to salvage 3 - 5 gallon pots from the house down the street after they planted some junipers. Also alot of nurseries have discarded pots out back. This might be considered theft since they are not technacally "garbage" on the public streets. Can't hurt to ask them if they have any containers they want to get rid of, some places will give them away, others might charge a small fee for them, but still cheaper than going to Home Depot or Walmart.

You want to keep the lights as close as possible to the plants to prevent stretching. With CFL's the heat isn't an issue unlike HPS or MH, my girls kept growing into the lights. After training them, there was not a single burn on the leaves that were against the lights. But then again i am only using 26w blubs. Hope this helps.

ya i would move those cfl's down as close as possible. now granted, people say that u dont have to worry bout the plants touching the light if u use cfl.......well u kinda have to.... that is, if the plant is resting up on the light for a period of time. id stay within an inch of the cfls at all times.

stretching depends on the type of light your using mainly more than the actually height of the lights. im not going to really go into detail about spectrums of light and whats best for veg and flowering
as i figure most should really know this before they start growing and its as simple as looking in google to understand what spectrum of light will give you short and bushy plants.

personally i never understood people who buy so many CFLs, no offense but the amount they end up spending on so many CFLs they could buy a legitimate light with ballast, one they wont have to ghetto rig.

not to say you cant get amazing results from either just saying i dont get it completely, that setup is just ridiculous to me, the sockets the amount of CFls and the rigged crap to hold it all together couldve gotten you a 150w HPS/MH nowadays.
lol those big ass window fans just a bit much, i hate to see people be so cheap when they dont need to be, im all about saving money, but people really go overboard with CFls not realizing the amount of money things actually cost in this day and age.

i dont care what anyone says, CFLs produce heat, anything left on for hours will, i really dont recommend doing that unless you literally have an air conditioned grow room and i mean it has its own unit, if it ever were to get humid or just a spell of hot days you could really run into some issue thinking you can keep them so close, i have CFLs with my HPS, and they get nearly just as hot, if it burns your hand then yea dont put your plants that damn close or even sitting on them they will burn for sure.

hate to be an ass buster, but yea i think spectrum always comes into play with newbies, i notice you mention this is your first time yet you dont even describe the type of lights you are using other than saying they are CFLs.
if you dont understand spectrum, lumens and depth of light and how it effects a plants growth i promise you, that you will run into problems, especially flowering. it also kind urks the hell out of me that no one even bothered to notice or even explain how important the color spectrum your bulb emits is for veg or flowering as well a the required amount of lumens to grow fully healthy plants.

only in this forum that would happen, sadly this forum is not a serious as it should be, i would check out ICmag, those people there really know how to explain things correctly to the fullest detail and there are way more i mean way more hardcore ass growers there that anyone would be proud to get information from so check it out, i know youll love it if not move to there. people there are way more helpful no offense to you all but they wouldve pointed this out with the first comment.

if i was you i would grasp spectrums and go out buy some CFLs that you know qualify, i hate to see newcomers tossing any light they find into their grow rooms. i just want to make sure you get the most out of your first grow because if you dont understand all aspects you will end up learning slowly from grow to grow which isnt really that fun, i mean youll always learn more each grown but having the proper know how before hand will help you a great deal to pinpoint problems you run into and stop them before its too late.

and no i dont mean HPS, MH, CFLs, T5s or LEDs just in case your wondering im giving you the benefit of the doubt you know what a color spectrum is and that each and every bulb made on this planet gives a different range of spectrums. so picking the correct bulbs for the job is crucial, 2 people can have the same ballast lets say 250w HPS, but they both have different bulbs one went the cheap route bought a generic bulb with no detail to spectrum or any clue as to what it gives, versus someone who purchases a bulb from a company who gives you every detail of the bulb so you know what your using and using it correctly. the person with the generic bulb will suffer trust me on that from experience, we were all in same boat at one point in time.

and i know i seem like an ass but im really just trying to help you understand the more important aspects of growing, not these simple one liners, so ill leave it at that.
