So basically I already have my ballest and I'd like to purchase a cooled hood. Now do i have to buy certain one or can I simply change the socket ends? Are most ballest plug in ends the same?

There are two main types of ballast connectors. S type and H type. They sell little adapters so you can change one to the other.
