what would be best for the bud production if i used one light through entire grow a 600W HPS or a 600W MH for both veg and flower? anyone have any pics of just mh or just hps bud?

thats not true baseline, if you use HPS for veg your nodes will be long.. if you use MH you will have tight short nodes(i prefer)
MH is used for veg because of the blue light it gives off, it represents the summer and the HPS gives a red/orange light which indicates the short autumn days, if i had to choose I would pick MH.

see this is what i mean, any other inputs? or exp.? ive seen people go both ways. and i was just wondering if anyone had any real input into like pics of the difference...

From everything I've read. either will work. MH will give you longer buds and HPS denser buds. I have seen MH grows and they look great.

For the same watts HPS puts off more lumens. More light menas more bud.

Also HPS lights are excelent for the flowering stage which is the most important (you want lots of bud right?). If you can only go with one go with a HPS.

wow completely 50/50 response. ive seen a stadium grow with just MH and dude got like 2 lbs of of each 1000 W MH light, then again the most common is hps all the way through....i think ill go with hps. has anyone actually noticed a big difference in the likes of each? i mean is the internode spacing THAT much different. or are the buds that much thicker?

from what i know..or rather what worked for me was tohave MH for veg to grow faster and more shoots, then hps for the flowering. But thats just me, I have seen pics from people that say different and their plants look great =)

i know that both works out great, i just have room and money for one. i soon want to get a clonebox that has high wattage cfl's (like a 200W or 2x125W CFL's - act. wattage) in a seperate room. I just didnt know if anyone has done just a mh grow or just a hps grow from Experience...and had anything to let me know, any problems they had, etc.

I use HPS for the entire grow cycle, have been for years with no probs.

well...i dont want to spend the extra money on a dual ballast, because i want a Seperate clone chamber. so i wont really need the mh yet i guess..

i dont know if i should get like a 600W MH so then when i move out in a year i can upgrade and get a 1000W or more hps and use the mh i have now for veg :P, i think ill get a mh

A plant doesn't use lumens though, a hps may have far more "lumens" than a mh but a mh bulb's cri is much higher.

cri means color rendering index which is directly related to plants and the amount of useable light,

hps bulbs sit around 20-25% and mh bulbs around 80%

the mh has more useable light for the plant

what about ^^^^ an hps bulb with more blue spectrum light. it has a great combination of both spectrums if you can only afford one light right now. on my first grow i had an hps light and was using that for veg. i ended up ordering a 1000W mh light almost halfway through. when i got it i put it up immediately. the difference that i noticed was that it had tighter node spacing like has been said and it seemed to be growing at a slightly faster pace. not sure if that last part was placebo effect or real but it def started to get a llot denser vegetative growth than with just the hps. i never tried the mh for flowering as i had an hps but froom what most people recommend the hps light will give denser nugs than mh.

i started growing with an hps alone and the seedlings put all their growing effort
into height and not root/leaf which would eventually lead to them toppling over
more than likely. so i did some research and there was a source that confirmed that
an hps alone will just attract plants to want to grow towards it and nothing else but
that if you add the presence of a blue light source it will stop this. so i added a 10"
reflector with a blue grow light in it and sure enough the plants' leaves started to get
bigger and multiply and grow more laterally rather than vertically.

anyone else ever heard of this or has used a combination on a red/orange spectrum
light and blue spectrum ?
