Hps stretch can led bxeb hlg

I grow my plants under hlg and bxeb and yields awesome

gave my cuts and setup to a pal who has a 400whps instead and the plants are so much more stretchier by double the height too much node spacing really

is that an influence by the red in the light fat red etc ? It’s a proper orange light compared to my led which looks like an operating room lol

the hps is a Phillips green horti hps dual spec
I’d say plant growth in terms of leaves are the same but intermodal spacing mine stacks tight as like 1cm gaps he has like easy 5cm gaps

Wondering if the red fat red initiator setups would help this ? Is this the reason for them cause I know fat red male stretch and hps is said to have more red…

sometimes I wish I could make them stretch further and fill the screen better the nodes being so tight can pose problems sometimes so if I can make them bolt up that’s great

atm no strain has much stretch time in flower under 3500led or hlg350 spec red
And I wish I could increase this just not as much as the hps is showing

is the red the reason for stretch on hps there massive I had to fold them and there on 400 watt my led is on 400to 900

Most HPS bulbs I have used in the past were around 2000K and there was always a lot of stretch.
Not too sure if the extra stretch comes from the increased red, far-red, or from the lack of blue, but with the same strain (15 years strong!) under 3-3500K BXEB Gen 2's, found it stretches way less and almost looks like a different strain. Under HPS it has thinner sativa-looking leaves and under 3500K the leaves are broader and bushier.

IIRC the far-red or infra-red in HPS triggers a 'shade avoidance' response from the plant so it stretches more to get to the canopy, because it interprets the increased IR or far-red as the type of light it gets when it is being shaded. Or something like that.

Bruce Bugbee on YouTube has some videos on using different spectrums to control plant morphology.

I have a few Bridgelux and Samsung 3K, 3.5K, and 4K DIY fixtures and prefer the 3000K results every time.

Tried a few times using the MH used for Veg for the first few weeks after flip to control stretch, and it worked to a decent degree but the end results weren't as nice.

yeah, its one of those things with sodium lights, you can if you can keep the temps down, put the lights close enough to stop the stretch, thats why i love my leds and metal halides, they make sure you dont get any
