hps wiring question

High everyone, new to indoor, bout to start my first project when i get my stealth hydro sys. in.(hopefully soon) I will be starting with some killer bagseed in the sh bubbleponic dual spectrum 65w cfls and a 400w mh also. i do construction/remodling and today in one of the office complexes we frequently work at, i found a huge 1000w hps flood light in one of the storage rooms. i could prob. have it if i talk to the right people, my question is how complicated would it be to wire that light to a cord and could it be 110v or would it have to be 220? also if it is easy to wire, should i try to get it and use that instead of the 400mh i am only going to have six plants, eight if it gets too cold for my two current outdoors. any help will be appreciated.:joint:

Do it, to wire them up is real easy , aspecially if the light still have pig tales from previous use, if it has light sensor boild inn , no problem, easily bypassed or simply bloced...In my experience most of theese lights come with a tech data sticker ,wiring diagram included...Shouldnt be to hard for you to figure it out once you get it home.

Correct me if im wrong but wont you also need to construct a ballast for a 1000W HPS light. And also, all power outlets in the U.S. are 120V DC power, 110V will NOT work

it has nothing, i'd have to crack it open and wire from scratch, but if i did manage to pull it off, wouldnt i need some major ventilation. i mean dont the 1000s put out alot of heat and use alot of power. would it be worth the trouble for such a small grow?

Please describe the light you saw...And it will be worth the trouble just in case you decide to expand...

Ohhh, so its an indoor fixture without a ballast? I'm having trouble figuring out what it is... But if it is what I just guessed its pretty much spare parts unless you can find a ballast...

It should be 120v AC, and yes it will work. And yes it will be hot. It will have internal ballast. does the bulb sit vertical or horizontal in the housing that it is in?

Hmmm, you will have to make sure the ballast is there, if it is it will say on it how many volts 110/220 ....Good luck.

Nice...I am sure it has an internal ballast, the problem I see with those kind of lighting set-ups is that the bulb that is stock may not be worth the watts, and keeping them cool will be a problem. If the bulb hung vertical then mabey you could just extend the socket and hang the bulb away from the housing in a vertical position...I look forward to seeing what you come up with......Gl
