I dont have a 4 inch, but i do have a 6 inch. It isnt really that loud, however the fan blade has started rattling after only a couple of months.

HAHA. Nevermind i thought you were talking about the duct fan... lol. I dont know anything about there high velocity fans. Although i have been looking into them as well. I dont believe they have the same amount of back pressure as can fans, but still should do the job right regardless. Also thx for the link Str8dank. Those prices are very nice.

I don't know about the four inch, but I purchased the six inch 424cfm fan and it's the fucking loudest thing i've ever heard. I have it upstairs in a cabinet in my two story house and with all the doors and windows closed you can still hear it outside within 10 meters of my house on all sides.I can't even use it because of how loud it is.

The 4" 170cfm is a little noisy, but the majority of the noise is due to the small 4" ducting and alot of air trying to move down a small hole.

If you get the 4'', get a 4'' to 6'' reducer and run 6 inch ducting. Still get the same air flow, just quiets down the noise created by moving air. My fan is in the attic so I don't even hear it, and after I went to 6'' ducting, it's really quiet.

And I concure, that 424cfm is a beast. Sounds like a fighter pilot taxing down the runway, lol.

In all reality though, it isn't the fan that is noisy...it's just the movement of air.
