I need a new way to drain my UCXXL13. I cannot use a shopvac because of the size of my plants. I cannot just drop a submersible pump into one of my buckets because it will suck the roots through as well as the water. What I need to know is how to utilize that drain hose thingy on the side of the epicenter. I don't know about you guys, but whenever I attach my garden hose to that thing and turn my hose on, NOTHING comes out, barely anything does. I figure its because there is nothing pressuring it out of the system. Well how do I make this work? I know people will tell me to attach a pump to the hose, or a pump to the drain valve, BUT HOW???? If there are fittings that they make that can make me convert a mag drive pump hole(the hole that's on the side, not the one that points up)(http://www.marinedepot.com/Danner_Mag_Drive_Supreme_2_250_GPH_Water_Pump_Up_to_500_Gallons_Per_Hour_Submersible_Aquarium_Pumps-Danner_Mfg.-DN1119-FIWPSBUF-DN1119-vi.html) into a hole where my hose can be screwed in, I would love to know what they are called exactly, and where I would go to purchase them (because I know hydro stores wont have them).

I would like to know how everyone else does it using ONLY the drain valve. If someone could explain this to me by a way a pictures or links, I would be SUPER appreciative of that. Hope someone can help!

126 views later and still NO ONE knows? So much for getting help on RIU!:wall:

EDIT: I actually went to a local plumbing store and explained my situation to one of the kind fellows there. He told me to buy this thing http://www.plumbersurplus.com/Prod/Little-Giant-365S-12-Volt-Non-Submersible-Self-Priming-Transfer-Pump-with-1-Power-Cord-555203/57115/Cat/1246. I purchased one online (since they didn't have any there) and once I get one in, I will let you guys know how that works out for me. I'm sure there are others out there that own the same type of UC system I own and hopefully this will provide an answer on how to use that drain valve quickly and efficiently.

I custom built my own UC, but if you look at the video in my log, you'll see a very easy way to achieve what you want, with a little modification.

Drain valves suck. Use the inline pump to pump it out. Takes much less time.

Just remove the tee in the epicenter and attach a hose to it. Turn on the pump and once it's almost all drained out run water into the epicenter at the same time to flush it out the remaining water. Check the ppm and once it matches your waters ppm, remove the drain hose and lit it fill back up.

Damn bro!! Where were you about a week ago!??! I should of totally been able to figure that out on my own (but I'm a high on), so ofcourse it never occurred to me that I could simply remove the tee from the epicenter and run out all my water through a garden hose. What I ended up having to do is buy one of these things http://www.starwatersystems.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ProductId=317 and attach a garden hose to my drain valve and pump it out that way. I appreciate you coming through with that WS, I just wish it would of come through sooner :wall:

Lol if you bought the kit from current culture h20 it comes with the garden hose slip fitting. It's in the instructions. You can buy the 3/4" garden hose slip fitting from Home Depot.

you don't need this pump lol. The mag drive pump you use with your system can pump almost all the water out of the system. I think you should read the instructions. It has pictures also or you can contact current culture h20 and they will help you out.

madscientist, read original post. I specifically put down that I wanted a way to drain out all the water using only the drain valve. I even put it in bold because I was expecting tons of people to not thoroughly read it and say what I can do with that mag pump. What WSRidahs told me was a pretty good way to do it, but like I stated, I need/can only drain out water through that drain valve. Thanks for your input anyways though.
