Human saliva as a rooting hormone

I came across a random article while researching organic rooting compounds - http://www.dirtdoctor.com/organic/garden/dallasnews/id/675/.

The author claims that human saliva is an effective rooting agent so I decided to put it to the test. I am a light cigarette smoker so I thought it best to eliminate any contamination. I brushed my teeth, rinsed with mouthwash, and drank a glass of water to rinse everything out. I collected a little bit of spit (no phlegm - ugh) and then added about the same amount of non-clorinated water.

I took 8 cuttings from 4 different strains. One set went straight into wet soil with nothing added. The other 4 I dipped into the saliva/water mixture before planting. I used no domes on any of the cuttings and misted daily.

No rooting compound = 1 of 4 rooted

Human saliva/water = 4 of 4 rooted

Although my experiment is far from scientific, it definitely has me convinced this is worth trying again. I hope some of you folks try it too and report back your findings.
