I can run either HPS or MH bulbs with this lamp. A simple switch in the (built in) ballast can toggle between each type.
Any one have any experience with this light, either good or bad? I think I'm going to go for it, it's on sale for 150 bucks.

Nice lookin plants. I think a 250w will be fine for me with one or two plants in a closet grow. Start MH for veg, then to HPS for flower. It'll be nice to have the flexibility to use either.
But yeah, wondering how much heat a 250w will put out in a small walk in closet...

I'm running a 250w MH Grow Max Jr. (Not sure what brand this light fixture is?? but it is almost identical to my hydrofarm sunburst 400w HPS) in what I consider a "small walk-in closet." I use this light in conjunction with 2 large CFL bulbs for Veg. Like Capecokid said; I have also had some heat issues with this light/ballast combo. Ventilation will be a must through my experience.

Mine is an older model w/o the switchable ballast which may make a dif.??

Other than the heat issues I really enjoy the convenience of these enclosed ballast type fixtures. To be honest though... If you are planning on expanding or updating your grow in the future, I would buy a fixture with a seperate ballast. This way you don't have to worry about the heat from the ballast in your grow room and (correct me if I'm wrong) exhaust cooling the hood will be easier if that option is ever needed.

Has anyone heard of the "Grow Max Jr."??

Yeah if you just want a low profile grow, a 250 watt works decent. I started on a 250, and god some decent buds.
