does anybody know where the build up on the botem of a hydro tub comes from?

i have a ten gal tub were the plants sit in a basketand the roots dip into the water / nuits. i chang my nuits every week, and im using rockwool on this grow . yesterday i removed one small plant from the tub, and the roots siting on the botem were full of this muck looks kinda like mud. but i dont have any soil in my system.

i was able to clean the roots on the small ones by rinseing the muck off but my larger girl has biger roots and i cant remove her without hurting her. she has yellowed leafs and looks sad.

one moor week and i think she will be done , so im not to woried about her. but im prity sure i want to control this problem, im just not sure what it is that im trying to control. please help.

Is there an airstone of any kind in the tank? Sounds like a root rot kind of thing.- Try adding one.

Also what is the res. temp?
What kind of nutes?

Also try H2o2 at 1-2 Ml/ Gal . This should get rid of whatever you are growing in that tank ( other than plants and roots). Dont use h2o2 with organic nutrients though. It kills all the microorganisims in the solution and medium, both good and bad.

It may be too late on the finished plant, but I use Hygrozyme- Its an enzyme that eats away dead cellular matter, keeping the root zone free of decay. Its also Ok to use with H2o2 in low ppm.

Good Luck!

i do have air stones in the system, i have 4 in the ten gal tub. and i have two pumps. i was also thinking it was not anugh air, and i thought about a power head for fishtanks. that not only creates air bubles but it moves the water also. come to think about it i do get a sour smell, by the end of the week.
