Hydroton with netpots

Hey guys i'm in the process of completing my hydroponic setup. Ill most likely go with the hydroton medium but im a little confused. Should i fill up a netpot with hydroton and fill up the rest of the tray with hydroton also?! Ive also seen people just stick 3x3 rockwool cubes around the hydroton?

This is only how I do - maybe not the "right way"
I use straight hydroton and net pots mostly. Sometimes no pots right out of clone. I like to use the pots as they help to support the plants in the medium as the get larger.
Sometimes I do not use net pots but need support strings in flower to keep those plants from flopping.
So to answer you question, I find it best to put a net pot under water, put a rooted clone in it, fill the pot with hydroton, then stick the pot in my ebb tray which is filled with hydroton. This provides plenty of support and nutrient flow around the roots. I did use rockwool cubes and netpots then put them into the hydroton until I realized I could save money on the rockwool and skip it.

Id recommend putting the hydroton in pots. Regular pots meant for soil. The size depends on your style of growing but there all reasonbly priced and easy to find. The benefits is you save on media because your not filling the whole tray ,its easy to whine out males(if growing from seed) without disturbing near by plants. Plants in a tray filled with media roots will all be tangled together. If you keep them in pots you can move plants that are not getting enough light into better spots on your tray. The roots will get air-pruned. If one plant has root probs, disease exc... no prob, try to fix it or if not possibe throw it out. Try doing that when all your roots are tangled together.

Iam sure iam leaving some benefits out but you get the point.
