Hygrometer Recommendations?

So i brought a few hygrometer; they were all cheap i was hoping they would be relatively accurate, however they vary up to 15% RH between gauges. Any recommendations on a good one?

Cheap hygrometers can still be effective if you know what the error is...if they read 15% too low, then just mark it with a felt pen as -15

Link below is a salt test that can determine exactly how far off your unit is.

Cigar shops likely have the best available hygrometers, as they really need to dial in the RH quite accurately.

some of the expensive units have an adjustment...but remember the analog ones are total crap...always go digital

most have a magnetic back so they can attach to the lid of a humidor...which attaches well to the inside lid of your mason jar

I bought a HygroSet II Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer from Cheap Humidors for about $24. It can be calibrated, has a magnet attached, and can easily attach to the top of the lid of a mason jar when curing.

I bout some real cheap ones from eBay that look similar to the square one they seem to work ok ( 3.25$ ea.)

@ISK Thanks heaps for that link! Calibrated them today, after 12h of salt testing digital one was on dead on 75% throughout the day it might go up or down 3%, The others are like 10-15% out! so i will calibrate them! Its good to know the digital ones are way more accurate, i'm just all about saving power, hate replacing batteries there so expensive where I live.

If you have an accurate probe thermometer then you can take wetbulb and dry bulb then enter the two on a online calculator. Using a single ply piece of wet toilet paper around the probe in front of a fan will be a real close wetbulb reading :).

Hygrometer position in your tent is crucial for accuracy imo, directly under the lights will give false readings of air humidity.

If air circulation is good that really shouldn't be an issue though
Its the heat factor, the lights create a different environment directly under them, if you put your hygrometer to the side it will read differently.

When we read humidity in the field we made sure the hygrometer was covered or in a box like those weather stations by the side of the road. It is just the air you want not air plus radiated heat from the light.

A proper canopy hygrometer will be shaded not bare to the light. At home we place hygrometers indoors not out under the sun to measure the outdoor humidity.

Try it in your tent and watchthe humidity rise at the edge of your tent away from your lights and drop when placed under your lights. Common problem for many to think they have low humidity when in reality its not and remedied by simply shading or moving the hygrometer out of the light.

Yes I will try it in my shed :). In a few weeks if I ever get it going :(.
