Correlation does not necessarily equate to causation, but interesting perspective.

It's a much stronger argument than any coming from either side of the debate in this country.

So show where the connection breaks down? I think the issues of wealth and income inequality are central to America's problems in many areas, not just gun violence.

I can't disprove the theory any more than someone can prove it, so perhaps you are correct. I think the breakdown in the traditional two parent family unit is also a factor.

you can't blame this on lack of nuclear family. we're being squeezed from every which way..just got notice my hr benefits are being reduced AGAIN..shifting traditional burden onto the EE.

how much more of this can we take?

Turns out that's also strongly correlated with the GINI coefficient.

I don't blame any one factor, just think it could be a contributing factor. What is EE?

I'm going to guess that exactly no one commenting in this thread actually clicked on the link and read the half page long article with citations.

That pretty much sums up the quality thinking here.

No one wants to learn anything, they just scream their agenda and wonder why everyone has earplugs.

Yes, economic inequality is an important factor in homicides overall, not just gun homicides.

So, I ask you why should we compare the US to Nicaragua when we look at gun ownership vs homicides? They aren't anything alike.

The author in your link compared rates of homicide in Nicaragua and other nations with rampant violent gangs, problems with corruption in the justice system and terrible economic conditions to the US to draw some conclusion about gun ownership in the US not being important. It's like lumping a prison population with a monks in a monastery to say that number of people per cell isn't important when it comes to violence when men live close together.

If we compare gun ownership among countries with advanced economies, in other word,s countries that are similar to each other, we see that rates of gun ownership does correlate to gun homicides.

Sure economic conditions are important. This doesn't mean that rates of gun ownership isn't or that gun control laws don't work.

America has rates of gun violence approaching those of nations at war.
No, "America" doesn't. BLACK COMMUNITIES, on the other hand, certainly do.

There is a poisonous culture that exists in our black communities that exists in no other community in the nation. It is a culture that embraces violence, ignorance, dependence, and attacks and mocks order, education, and civility. Be they poor white trash, Latino, or any other segment of society that lives in poverty, NONE murder at the rate that our black communities do. Until THEY are willing to confront and change the culture of violence they live by, and celebrate in many cases, then nothing will ever change.
