easy the little fk'ers have made a heap of our native birds extinct and put many more on the endangered species list. F.Y.I. i dont take the fur i spill there guts onto the ground where they fall to attract the wild pigs(another noxious pest) i go back 2-3 days later with my dog and slay a pig to eat.

You sound like me, fdd.I feed anything that comes by.Last year, I was feeding possums and baby skunks, and a raccoon, as well as several stray cats. If you have farm stores around, you can get just about everything you need for way cheaper than a vet would charge you.You just have to administer the stuff yourself. I would suggest at least worming the things...just figure out their weight, and give them a dose in some soft cat food.Maybe make them a little dog house with some hay in it for night time.Go easy on the cat food, it's not really meant to meet their nutritional requirements.But hell, give them leftover chicken and fish,fruits and veggies....eggs...they're kinda like little garbage disposals.Watch your cats..they'll either accept them, or try to kill them.Remember,above all else, cats are predators. If you call animal control, chances are, they will destroy them, as they are not an endangered species,and considered a "nuisance animal". If they begin to bug you,you could live trap them and take them to a national park at night, or a rural location where they can find a food source and water.The humane society isn't so humane, I've found.

the X father-in-law used to trap them and take them out to the vineyards and release them.

the cats seem annoyed by them. like, "what do you think you're doing here?" they sniff there nose, shake there paw, and walk away.

That's good.My cats are cold blooded killers, but they don't seem to wanna tangle with possums, either.I wonder if cats just don't like possum?
I administer all the shots to all my animals, except rabies...I think that has to be given by a vet.So just make sure your cats are up to date on their rabies shots, and if by some chance one of the possums had it, your cats would be safe.

I used to have a Possum come through the dog door and eat all the leftover cat food. At that time we had 5 cats, and none of them would even go near that Possum....

I went to have a peek at him and turned on the kitchen light, it just turned and opened its mouth wide open to display a sharp set of many many pointed teeth. Then it simply went back to eating.... :lol:

the momma will prob take him back, the motherly instinct is way stronger than your human smell on him.id put him in a box big enough so he cant get out, but small enough that momma can get him if she comes around.place some cat food around to lure her in.

the whole "human smell" is a wives tale told to kids so they leave baby animals alone. animals will not abandon their young, they aren't that cruel.

vet said if we get too many cats then we risk the chance of eventually getting a bad one that will pee on everything. :-?

Smell does have a bit to do with it. I've had mother cats adopt orphaned kittens before, but only after you take the kitten and rub it on her and her other kittens.
