I'll figure something out. They're only 3 weeks old. I have a few more weeks till they start budding and the real smelling starts

Don't sweat it. You can wash it off with alky. ITs the same with halogen lights. Its because it uses a quartz glass.

OK, I already failed that test. I screwed the bulb in with my hands, so far so good though. And I'd be too scared to use 2 x 1000 watts because of police and shit.

Can a run 2 400W bulbs off a 1000W ballast?

Is the ballast rating, the max, or required?
(not a lighting guy, gimmie a few microchips and see what happens0

Don't think so. I asked the guy a similar question and he said no. If it's a 1000w ballast, you have to use 1000w bulbs.

Hmmm Interesting. I just gutted a 70W and 150W (ok, small grow room) and looking at the wiring, I think it can be done. Separate, matched to bulb, igniters might be needed. Think I'm gonna inquire to manufacturers. I *think* 2 400's over a larger area might work better. (just thinking of a BIG grow room, but mainly peppers, tomatoes, etc.)

What 'guy' did you ask? (I have corrected a lot of floor sales people helping other customers on stuff. a few of the salesman actually thanked me, but not many)
