I Just Need To Vent a Little

Lately I have been having some serious issues with having to read posts two or three times just to get the general idea of what the post concerns. Bad grammar, punctuation (or the lack there of), and poor spelling are driving me crazy. Do a little proofreading before you hit "Reply", just a little.
On another note, a lot of new gardeners are just looking for information handouts. Take some initiative and do the research. A lot of the information is already on the web, you just have to know how to use a search engine to find the answer to your question. Years ago we didn't have all of this data at our fingertips, we actually had to go to the bookstore or the library to find solutions to our questions if no one we knew had the answer. Now, granted new techniques have evolved over the past several decades, but in the grand scheme of things growing is growing.
With this being said, we are all still here to help and support each other. It just seems like a lot of the posts are poorly written and repetitive.

Thank you for your time.

P.S. Ban the Spammers.

While you may be right I'm not sure what you mean by having to read posts two or three times to understand what it means. I very rarely have that problem so newbie central is for new growers. Advanced cultivation is for experienced growers. If you go to advanced cultivation I'm sure the posts are better written but I don't see any problem with the site as is.

I think newbie central is a hell of a lot more informative than the advanced cultivation section, as soon as you put advanced in front of it everyone thought they were experts, seriously, have you looked at the threads and stickies down there? They should be up here.lol

  • Here is a prime example of a post that I literally had to read several times on the forum:

    {a friend of mine gave me so chemicals and a guide, its called floraseries I have floragro, florabloom and floramicro.. then also have rhizotonic,boost accelerator,ace of buds n another one gnatoh, if someone wouldn't mind taking ten mins to help me out.. when do I use them? and it says on the floraseries guide 10ml to 10l water do I fed them everyday and I don't have 10l water pot would a 2l walterpot do and 2ml of chemicals... also I don't have a guide for the other 4 bottles? could some one please help many thanks}

I do realize that this is the newbie section of the site. However, it really should not matter what portion of the site it is, advanced or otherwise. We all should have had at least a ninth grade English class, and should try to exercise some of the grammatical laws that we learned. From my gardening experience over the past twenty years, I can attribute a lot of my success to my attention to detail. I guess that would be my advice to anyone who wants to start growing.
Before you even try to sprout a bean, have your growing environment set-up and running for a couple of days to get everything dialed in. This will save a lot of repetitive questions regarding plants and environmental issues that come up through the grow.

My intention of this post is not to bash anyone, but to try to help us all get better results and to break out of that "dumb stoner" stereotype.

You should not be worried about the logical ones, as we are the ones on the front lines getting this sacred herb decriminalized. You can't start petitions and other legal procedures with bad grammar and the lack of punctuation, and this should carry over to the entire cannabis community. The government will laugh you right our of the state capital building before you even get started. Again, attention to detail.
We are actually the ones working for the marijuana community.

Indubitably my dear jazlm, indubitably. I am required, at certain times, to be grammatically correct in everything I compose. But however, I generally relax when logging on to a website designed for stoners, hippies, pot-heads, and dopes. After all, the website is named, ''rollitup''.

I sincerely hope that you do not find my literature too demeaning.

Good day, kind sir.

Sincerely yours,

The Cat

Laziness is no excuse, that just fuels the "dumb stoner" stereotype that a lot of us in the community are trying to get away from.

Im a 2 time felon because of marijuana laws, I cant vote so they wont laugh at me for my grammar, they will laugh at me cuz they already got me. Im not composing a petition on here, im just shootin the shit, some others arent from the US and their broken english is pretty fuckin good, ya just gotta think logically about what they are saying and ask simple questions that they will understand if you wanna help. Its hard to be fluent in 2 or 3 different languages

That's exactly what i was going to say. I can understand some grammar and spelling issues because not everyone here is fluent in the English language, and translations never work out perfect. On the other hand, I wont tolerate hood slang, and single letter abbreviations. I.e. "were r u"

there are other forums that are more uptight. this has never been the harvard of grow sites. if you do stick around, and read a bit, especially the older stuff, you'll notice there are many brilliant minds on this site. try not to let the few bother you too much. smoke some pot and chill out my friend. there are plenty of us who are professional enough to shrug off the idiocy.

When I was younger with texting I used to do that... I dont know when it changed. But it got kinda annoying to me, not as read these messages but when I text with people. When it comes to here, its just second nature to read right past the errors and get the information provided. And yea, I hate reading back my drunk texts. :)
