I need advice on 600w Digital Ballast

ok whats up everyone. First off i have looked on the net and Grow Light hps

its not going to cost that much more to get a digital ballast and running cost will be cheaper

digital ballast is capable of switching between 400w or 600w whilst onlt needing the one bulb

and dual spectrum bulb.

is this right I will be able to switch from 400w to 600w?

the grow space is 80x80x160cm
I am finking that 400w will be ok in that space or I can switch to the 600w seting and see how hot is gets too hot on 600w switch it back to 400w?

any1 tell me if its worth upgrading to a digital ballast?

running cost cheaper than a a standard core and coil (magnetic) ballast

it comes with a shade can I get away with useing just a shade or do i need to used a cooltube light reflector?

I have a dual wattage ballast (digital) to light up my property.
I got a lumatek electronic balance, that has 4 settings, 360W - 400W - 600W - "Super Lumens"

It is dimmable, and uses just one bulb. The instructions pretty explicitly state "USE ONLY 600W BULBS"

The downfall of these systems is they do not conserve energy.
The ballast will still power the unit at 600W even if you choose to use it only on the 400W setting.
Waste of cash!

You can also DIY this. Buy a cheaper lamp, and install your own variable resistor to it. It will give you the same dimmer capabilities, which in my mind are completely useless for growing. The 400W setting gets just as hot as the 600W setting on my lamp, so you may as well use more light!

I would buy the first lamp, as it has a remote ballast (600W) and add to it, a cooltube if possible.

Digital ballasts do come with a fair deal of savings on electrical consumption.

You may want to invest in a renewable energy source to power your grow.
2 square foot solar panel and a battery would likely see you through.
Initial setup is what'll cost you!

600 is the most efficient Bulb. if u are growing in a big area i suggest that. But if your growing in a cupboard or something without much ventilation, i suggest the 400w.

It all matters how much money you have to spend, i have a lumatec en i love it but they are expensive. You will have a little better elec bill but not a huge amount, the main reasons to go digital is less heat, no noise, supossed to last foever, and they just look better.... and for the refloctor it all matters how much room you have. If you have a small room with a 600 your gonna have heat problems trust me i kno to much heat will stunt growth ALOT en kill small plants
