I need help! Plant is getting too tall!

This plant is about 8 weeks old from seed. It's been under a 400 watt hps 12/12 for 6 weeks. After moving a larger plant out so these can get more light it has taken on a huge growth spurt and is almost touching the cool tube every morning. I have raised it as high as it will go and the plant is just now really starting to flower heavily, so I think I'll be running out of top space soon. The tent is 78 in tall so it's a big one. I don't know what to do besides letting the tops grow up into the hood. The tube is cool to the touch but I know this is way too close to the bulb. Any suggestions? Thanks.IMG_20130411_180332_989.jpgIMG_20130410_013125_009.jpgIMG_20130410_013215_472.jpgIMG_20130411_180055_396.jpg

You could do an ad hock scrog.
Install a tomatoe cage like support that reaches about half or two thirds up.
If you want to be aggressive you can supercrop the tops and let them lean on the support.
If you want to be less aggressive tie the tops down so the branches arch without breaking the stem, and tighten them up slowly.

Need to do something soon before she seriously enters flowering stretch.

irregardless

Irregardless is a word commonly used in place of regardless or irrespective, which has caused controversy since the early twentieth century, though the word appeared in print as early as 1795. [SUP][1][/SUP] Most dictionaries list it as "nonstandard" or "incorrect".

haha but its common english, and will be standard american english in short order

IMO, I would not supercrop. If the plant has already been in flower for 6 weeks it could stress the baby out and cause her to hermi. I personally start SCing around week 2 and stop around 1 week into flower. I have not had any hermi issues with this schedule.
At this stage in the game I would LST do to the lower stress applied to the plant.

Peace

yea super cropping will slow growth down for abit and strenthen your stems. Tried that with mine aswell as cutting of the top head and this was a mad cool choice! plant began growing 4 main heads(top branches not sure what they called:dunce:) also trimming off lower branches will help the plant consentrate on your new heads that have been forced to grow. You are left with just your main top buds getting so fat your plant might need extra support to hold up the fat nugs. This is called pruning and supercropping as far as i know and is a great idea. Also using string or rope to tie down branches to allow more surface area of the plant to recieve light is a good plan.

its just that the prefix 'ir' stands for 'non' or 'without', irrelevant, irreverent, irregular. The word regardless means 'without regard', so adding the prefix 'ir' changes the meaning to 'not without regard', meaning regard. See?

To get back to the original thread topic, yes, you should touch your plants. In a gentle and loving way. Like beating a disobedient child. Stern and compassionate lol. It's much easier on the plant than other training methods, and is proven to limit a plants growth where it senses restriction.

I vote tie you top down and tighten it a little every morning. Gave me a nice even canopy with huge buds this round

If you can LST it fine, looked to me too tall and fast growing to be very effective. To me the only difference in SC and LST is that you soften the stem a bit in SC to get them to bend where you want. I don't think it's all that stressful, but thats me.

Ya it is too tall to tie down at this point.

So I super cropped it at the main cola stems and I noticed that the bottom of the big fans where I cropped are getting light now instead of the top. Will these continue to grow and bud?

Right now, just bend over the top ... slowly.... make sure the plant was watered the day before, less chance of a bend to break...
Support the plant 18" from the top, then bend over very slowly, and then tie support the top, so just the top 18" is horizonal...
Then off that top 18" horizonal you'll now grow shoots up from it...
And... Good Luck
