It depends on your needs.

If you need to be safe(you have kids in the house, you're around those who would frown on this shit or you're really uptight) then pay an electrician. Don't tell them a thing. Just tell them you want service for x amps at a certain location, then take their bids.

If you're ok with a ghetto rig just run good outdoors grade extension cords from rooms where you're not using so much electricity. But if you have any problems with mice or rats, be sure to inspect them regularly. Fuckers will chew through them.

Sure, call your electric supplier and ask them. There are several books on how to wire circuits. Have you ever done any kind of electric wiring?

then you may not need to expand your main.

If you've got the money for those lights you've probably got money for an electrician. Just call one and tell him you want to set up a workshop in whatever shed/barn you're running the circuit to. He'll give you a quote and then install it for you.

Home depot has a book about wiring that will give you all you would need to know to accomplish this as long as you have the open circuits.

well then you run into the ghetto option again. You could run the extension cords and bury them in the ground. But then you have the problem of varmints chewing on them.

I guess you could bury them and then put them in conduit. It would prevent varmints...but seriously...if you're going to work that hard and spend that much....better to get someone to run it and hook it up for you.

Hmmmm. I'm trying to get creative here.

Tell you what. If your main is in the garage, just have the electrician wire some new breakers for you for high powered lights in the garage. Amateur mechanics use them to look at their motors and shit.

Once he's put in the breakers for you, you just turn the breakers off and then re-run the electricity out to your shed(put the wiring in the conduit). Presto, you've got bud.
