Ok I have started to grow and I am having all kinds of problems with the tempeture. I am using a 400 watt hps and I cant for the life of me keep the temp below 90*. If I put a fan on it drops the humidity way to low even with a new humdifier i just got. is there any ways to control temp without using a cool tube? I am growing in a 8ft by 5ft closet with an ambient temp of around 65* any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. I am about ready to switch to cfls.

Or add a/c either way your gonna have to fork up some money so..........and bad idea switching lights out.....just invest in an air cooled hood or cool tube.....if you plan on growing for a while you will eventually just buy all those things you need anyways

How low does your humidity get?I would sacrifice humidity over high temps.Hang wet towels in ur closet with a bucket to catch the dripping to help raise humidity.

Do you have fresh air coming in and hot air going out? a pc fan will not be enough to reduce heat. if your not venting stop using the 400w till you can find a way to vent.

a pc fan close enough to cool an hps will burn.

you need to vent the room. vent to a attic or basement or crawlspace or something.
you need cool air coming in and hot air going out.

if you cant do that get or cool tube.

or do nothing, 90 isnt that bad, pot is a tropical plant.

I would switch to cfls, you don't get heat problems with them.
but thats just my opin.
Yes you can have heat problems with CFL's. I have to leave the door open for my veg closet, with the door shut the temps shoot to almost 100F within ten minutes.

Put the fan back on - if you need higher humidity, try putting a bucket of water in there, or hang some damp towels.

I dont have a way to vent the closet but the closet is really cold it is just around the plants that get too hot. I am going to try to figure something out. thanks again I will keep posted on if i can figure something out.

you need to get some way to get rid of the heat. It's going to get hot in a closed room.
