I think i am closing in on harvest time

these plants were started in April. not the best photos, but 4 out of the seven plants have heavy crystals -or whatever the tech term is. I am hoping that the plants will last another 6 or 7 weeks until first frost in Florida. on the majority of the plants, the hairs are still white, i'd say about 1/3 have changed over to amber. they are VERY scenty, you can't get within 50 feet of where they are planted w/out smelling them. I finally got my 30x magnifier, i am amazed at the number of crystal on them. even the plant that i early harvested and cured is full of crystal, so i think i am doing ok, potency wise.
I'm looking for more of a head buzz than couchlock, because most of this herb will be smoked with co-workers on the carpool back home. what happens if i harvest too late, will it lose potency?
This is my second grow, so forgive the basic questions, i am hoping to get at least a pound of this stuff dried after harvest, it will last me a long time, i just want it to go right. thx for the advice i will be getting:eyesmoke:

Hey there! I have one outdoor as well, you will be done probably around the same time as I will, end of October or so, you are still a few weeks out. Keep an eye on the trichomes "heavy crystals" use a hand held microscope and start watching them they go from clear to a milkish white to amber, you want to harvest when you see the milky trichomes for a perkier high, amber trichomes are losing potency and will give you the "couchlock" stone. Dependind on the strain you are growing finish could be a little earlier or later.

Sativa, in general, is an "upper" and "energetic" high, vs. Indica, which is a "dduuuhhhhh" high, lol.

Sativas take a little longer than Indicas, the key is too watch the trichromes not the darkening "hairs" so to speak, I am growing Master Kush (indica) indoors and at 5- 6 weeks more than half the pistils, "hairs" are beginning to darken but the trichromes are still very clear, I watch them and usually harvest at 7 1/2 weeks. Sativas are a much more uplifting high, but any strain can become a "couchlock" variety if let mature too long. Your pics show that you are going to be a happy camper in a few more weeks! Good luck and enjoy!

Looks good.

DO NO HARVEST EARLY (white trichomes)! You have a sativa, a fully matured sativa will not couchlock you. Grow her till she is "done."

Are you serious!? It is known fact that if you let trichromes turn amber you are LOSING THC! I have grown Sour Diesal which is a Sativa and let it go too long, 10 weeks in my room, the trichromes turned amber and the stone was one hit and GOOD NIGHT! You need to re-read you marijuana 101 manual and pay attention this time! I cannot stand mis-informed people sharing their lack of knowledge! Know your facts before you open your mouth and save us all the headaches!
By the way, how many years/months you been growing?

ok, i am getting different answers here. let me see if i broke it down properly... clear trichomes are immature, white or milky looking is mature, and amber colored trichomes are , for lack of a better word, overripe? As Mickey told Rocky in rocky II, "hit the one in the middle". i am going to let them go until end of oct., checking the trichomes weekly, when the majority look milky, that is when i will post some pics and get a concensus.
I am not looking for couchlock, this stuff will be shared by friends, taking a 2 hour carpool back home from a job site. don't want to get pulled over and be too stupid to respond to police.. "Can i see your license?" "It's on the back of the car, man"... peace out

i dont know what you are talking about but you are wrong, thats what weed is supposed to do to you, GET YOU HIGH! I have been growing longer than you i bet and marijuana doesnt only produce thc, there are other combinations of cannabinoids that work together to get you fully stoned, anyways keep smoking those clear trichs without ANY thc in them because thats what it is ill keep getting high:peace::joint:

You are really going to go there?

Sour Diesel is not a pure Sativa - it is a Hybrid 90% Sativa / 10% Indica.

10 weeks isn't too long for a sativa. The flowering for Sour Diesel is 75-80 days 10.71 - 11.42 weeks; so it looks like you harvested EARLY!!!! Which goes to show us that trichome color means nothing if you had amber trichomes BEFORE the recommended harvest window. Next time wait till your plant is ripe before harvesting instead of following those trichomes / hairs.

I am the one that doesn't know what I am talking about?

You are at least part right but then to many people any cross that has as much as 50.01% sativa in it, it is officially a sativa to them. I had to chuckle a while back when after someone asked for suggestions for what PURE SATIVA to grow people were saying pick White Widow and other things that are equally or farther away from being a pure sativa. But to many .. if it is ever so slightly sativa dominant it is therefore officially a sativa, period the end.

Where I guess you may have been wrong is the percentages but that would depend on whose Sour Diesel someone would grow.

Reservior Seeds Sour Diesel is

It doesn’t give a sativa/indica percentage but if you look at the lineage it appears that there is likely more than only 10% indica in it.

Strain Lineage:

And Medical Seeds Company’s Sour Diesel is:
70% Sativa; 30% Indica.

"Originally Sativa, with clean and euphoric potent effect, but not very cerebral, it is the perfect all-day long mate. Crossing our best Indica of massive production with Diesel, we increase production and shorten flowering period."

I picked the most conservative number I could find.

I love sour diesel. But I have never felt a racy sativa high with it.

Great idea! I did not mean to sound like a know it all with my response to Mr. Ganja but I have been growing for 29 years and get a little irritated with people who throw misleading info around, experience is your only friend sometimes, I started growing back in the day when Peters professional plant food 20-20-20 was the choice fertilizer for growing weed!!!!!...........never assume you know everything about growing, always experiment when you can its half the fun! But NEVER forget the basics! If you harvest when the trichromes are milky you will have captured the best flavor and the most enjoyable high (not nappy time) your babies have to offer, looking forward to your future pics! Best wishes......

Yes! lets go there..... those are parameters, for example if you grow in highly C02 enriched environments you can and do get earlier harvests, up to 2-3 weeks less, I do not know one indoor grower who has ever let a plant go that long without losing potency and flavor, they thought it was the shit, no just shit. Couchlock will happen in any strain that is let go too long, PERIOD! If it takes you at least 11 weeks indoors your doing it wrong and I hope you have a day job! PEOPLE OF EARTH WHO LOVE THEIR WEED HARVEST WHEN YOUR LADIES TRICHROMES ARE MILKY WHITE not when the box says its done, all microwaves, oops! I mean grow environments are different, therefore let the plant tell you...... Also NEVER use the popcorn button on the microwave more often then not you get burned................PLH!

Also no shit on the sour diesel not being 100% sativa, it is sativa dominent, so according to your harvesting wisdom could the 10% or less indica trait have knocked off a couple weeks for maturity and all the Co2 in my room also have sped up the maturation of my plants?!! hmmmmm curious..... WATCH YOUR TRICHROMES FOLKS, Mr. Ganja must sleep a hell of alot or live on his couch!

What?? We are talking about types of high from various stages of trichrome maturity, CLEAR= too early MILKY= full high potential of plant AMBER = late stage, trichrome deterioration = THC loss leaving other cannabinoids that make you SLEEPY, and I think your smokin' it, hellooo is there anybody in there? How long you been growing? Sounds like you need to pull your pants up, yo! I have been doing it for 29 years...... are you even 20 yet?

I am not going to argue with you. If you are getting couch locked from a Sativa - you are really doing something wrong. If you like growing sup-par buds, shoot for the moon and continue your early harvests.

I don't think I have EVER seen a plant that was done that did not have some amber trichomes on it. If you are harvesting at milky white then you are one of millions that harvest prematurely.

You are losing out on your yield by harvesting early. So you are sacrificing yield and potency by being afraid of the "couchlock boogyman."
