I think i am closing in on harvest time

these plants were started in april. Not the best photos, but 4 out of the seven plants have heavy crystals -or whatever the tech term is. I am hoping that the plants will last another 6 or 7 weeks until first frost in florida. On the majority of the plants, the hairs are still white, i'd say about 1/3 have changed over to amber. They are very scenty, you can't get within 50 feet of where they are planted w/out smelling them. I finally got my 30x magnifier, i am amazed at the number of crystal on them. Even the plant that i early harvested and cured is full of crystal, so i think i am doing ok, potency wise.
I'm looking for more of a head buzz than couchlock, because most of this herb will be smoked with co-workers on the carpool back home. What happens if i harvest too late, will it lose potency?
This is my second grow, so forgive the basic questions, i am hoping to get at least a pound of this stuff dried after harvest, it will last me a long time, i just want it to go right. Thx for the advice i will be getting:eyesmoke:

a good rule to follow is, when you think they are ready, wait another week, peace out.

You are really going to go there?

Sour Diesel is not a pure Sativa - it is a Hybrid 90% Sativa / 10% Indica.

10 weeks isn't too long for a sativa. The flowering for Sour Diesel is 75-80 days 10.71 - 11.42 weeks; so it looks like you harvested EARLY!!!! Which goes to show us that trichome color means nothing if you had amber trichomes BEFORE the recommended harvest window. Next time wait till your plant is ripe before harvesting instead of following those trichomes / hairs.

I am the one that doesn't know what I am talking about?
Excuse me as I am a newcomer to your forum, but as far as not paying attention to the colors of the hairs and the trichromes you are completely off base, you really should not encourage people not pay attention to these two "all telling" features of the beloved marijuana plant, trics are more important than hairs as many strains have characteristically darker hairs that start turning darker earlier "pistils" is the accurate term, but trics dont lie, a creamy milky white color is the most desireable time to harvest all marijuana plants if you truly want to experience all that your plants have to offer. If you are using it for a medical condition and want a very lethargic theraputic high wait to harvest until the trics have started to turn amber slightly, beyond that is up to user discretion, also note that the fruit continues to ripen somewhat as it is curing. By the way, what signs do you use to harvest? Hopefully not the calender alone!

yikes!!! i sure was not trying to start any shit in here about knowing when to harvest. like i said, it is my second growing attempt. the only reason i am growing myself is because i am getting tired of paying for weed that gets a 5-10$ price increase on it every time it changes hands it b4 it gets to me. i am all for for capitalism, but enough is enough when someone sells you a 1/4 oz for 40 bucks and tells you it is great weed, but dissapoints you, you end up getting tired of hearing the hype.
So i planted my own. I could not even guess as to what the seed strain is. people looking at the pics tell me it is sativa, i am cool with that. i have 7 plants, i am hoping to get at least a pound dried, and will make cannabutter out of all the trim. i also have one plant that i harvested early ( smells semi schwaggy, but i can see trichomes). that one yielded me about 3-4 ounces, i'll make cannabutter out of that, too.
I like growing, but i am keeping it all for the head, and for barter for carpools and such. Living in Florida means having to look over my shoulder too much, as the cops and courts love to make money off pot smokers. I got caught with under a 1/2 ounce, it cost me 350$ in fines, lost my driver's license for two years, and the lawyer made some good bucks off me, too. i really appreciate this site and all teh help it gives me. at the end of oct., i'll post some pics if i have not harvested them yet. I am going to go by tric color, but i am sure they will last another 4 weeks.
Seeds from an unknown strain of green ( the only thing i am sure of is that the seeds did not come from brown brick mex), about 50 bucks in soil and ferts ( mostly molasses), and some investment of my time. not a bad deal, no matter how you look at it.
Hopefully, if i can find a good electrical local union on the west coast, i am going to move there, where the drug laws are not so harsh, and i am closer to my gf/fiancee/wife (pick one, it does not matter to me) in the Philippines. I thank ALL of you for the nice advice. happy smoking. party on!

your plants are not near ready yet. I realize that people have been giving you conflicting info in your thread but you are kinda far off your harvest time imo.

I recommend that you submit new pictures to this board in 3 weeks. The hairs will be mostly red by then...and should have started to recede into the bud by then too.

Just think of pot that you have purchased...did it look like the pics you are showing us now?

I am not going to argue with you. If you are getting couch locked from a Sativa - you are really doing something wrong. If you like growing sup-par buds, shoot for the moon and continue your early harvests.

I don't think I have EVER seen a plant that was done that did not have some amber trichomes on it. If you are harvesting at milky white then you are one of millions that harvest prematurely.

You are losing out on your yield by harvesting early. So you are sacrificing yield and potency by being afraid of the "couchlock boogyman."
Im done arguing with you as well! I do grow super (sup-par) weed, thank you, what is that old addage about beating a dead horse? Seriously folks look through this forum under "Harvesting and curing" and you will find some more great info on trichrome harvesting..........

The plant will look done when it is done. Hairs and trics are not all telling when you apply your conventional logic.

Excuse yourself for perpetuating bad information.

The stuff that BrickTop posts over and over? The trichome chart? It is all garbage.

Here is what your plants SHOULD look like when they are harvested:

ok, i am getting different answers here. let me see if i broke it down properly... clear trichomes are immature, white or milky looking is mature, and amber colored trichomes are , for lack of a better word, overripe? As Mickey told Rocky in rocky II, "hit the one in the middle". i am going to let them go until end of oct., checking the trichomes weekly, when the majority look milky, that is when i will post some pics and get a concensus.
I am not looking for couchlock, this stuff will be shared by friends, taking a 2 hour carpool back home from a job site. don't want to get pulled over and be too stupid to respond to police.. "Can i see your license?" "It's on the back of the car, man"... peace out
"Officly Honester Im not stoned!"

I have been growing for 29 years and get a little irritated with people who throw misleading info around, experience is your only friend sometimes, I started growing back in the day when Peters professional plant food 20-20-20 was the choice fertilizer for growing weed!!!!!.................
Dad! is that you?

Did you not click on the link? It explains it all.

Or would you like me to plagiarize it or put that in my own words?

Funny that you have been admittedly growing for 29 years and you still don't have the faintest clue when a plant is "ready" to harvest. Now that is laughable. YEEEEEE HAW!!!!!!!!!!!

I clicked on your link, did your roomate write that? Your brother? So what? You found a person who shares your same opinion which is cool, if you like over ripened bud that by the time it is fully cured wont have a tric head left on it! Not to mention the oils lost, that is a great pic of a overbaked bud! That picture looks like it has razor stubble, most trics already dead and gone! No glisten at all! Buds also continue to ripen until fully dry, do you like brown bananas? I will post a pic soon and let the masses decide what they think........

the problem is that the guy with the helmet is acting like a douche-bag and sponge bob is getting all sassy. I will say this though, it really is common knowledge that amber trichomes are starting to degrade. For PEAK potential of your strain you absolutely want to harvest your plants when they are at peak milkiness. Sometimes that means letting it go another week or so to let the little clear ones ripen up some but if you have to sacrifice too many milkies then what the fuck is the point. Yes, you will gain more weight by letting it over ripen but i'm not a drug dealer. I'm suffering from an incurable illness that leaves me exhausted and in pain. I can barely take care of my plants as it is. Most days its ALL i can do but you know what let's me do it? Not amber trichomes. If you want peak medicinal value (read max thc) then you harvest when your plant is at peak milkiness. This is not a matter of opinion. The light amber is your trichome beginning to break down and should be used as a warning or a sign to harvest depending on how widespread it is.

If you want lots of weight and don't mind eatting doritos on the couch all day then do what mr zuess says. I've read that thread a few times and its a good thread with good info but NOT for a medical patient. I have let plants go using the "let her go till she's done" method and the product was worthless to me. I passed it out to friends/family who use it for recreation and like to get retarded and go to sleep.

I do my best to let them go until the clear ones mature but if too much degradation sets in then i do the deed.

I know these pictures suck, but from what can you see does this look ready to begin harvesting or should we wait a couple more weeks? The leaves are getting yellow and crunchy and the plant smells so good. We have clipped a couple small buds and dried them and they smoke pretty ok but I want to do this right. Any feedback would be appreciated.

i just fertilized them with miracle-gro a few days. the trichs are mostly clear, i am gonna let them keep on going. the stuff i am growing already smells better than the bags of weed the seeds came from, so i am doing ok. plus, the invest was way under a hundred bucks and i should get over a pound of dried product. as far as i am concerned, it is free weed to me, so i am not going to be all picky. the shame is that no matter what kind of bud it is, i can't find out the quality until my damn union finds me some work, and i have to take a piss test to get a job here... so i'll probably still be unemployed by teh time this bud is ready. fuck it.. the joys of living in florida. you can grow great weed here, but no matter what kind of job you want, or what it pays, you are gonna have to piss in a cup... some wierd kinda cosmic karma going on here LOL
