I 've got a theory!

Alright now what if i throw all my compost material, banana peels, coffee grounds, and all that good stuff, into the soil and plant a seed in their right away. Since it hasn't already composted, it will compost with the plant in the soil, resulting in a slow perfect release of nutrients. The coffee grounds will provide the nitrogen, and the banana peels will provide potassium and phosphate. and some other stuff too

Yah that would work great. I can not understand why we all have not thought of that. Maybe you should put it in pots and grow with that mix inside your house, since it is cold outside right now.

Test your theory. I put egg shells in water used to hydrate my girls, they seem to like it. I throw the shells out after a couple of uses and add more whenever I have them. I don't know if it "really" does any good or not, but so far it hasn't harm them. Moderation...

Yea, stay well away from bananas. Those fruit flies will eat your bud like greedy people eat bacon.... I had some good results using well rotted and bagged sterile horse manure mixed with a standard compost and sharp sand. I mixed it 1 part manure, 6 parts compost, 2 parts sharp sand. Thats worked for me but... hey each to their own.

the bananapeels will provide them small annoying flies man.
come on
nah bro nah. i live in the desert, and i chopped the bananas real fine and mixed them in to the soil. I put them in a strainer and ran hot water over them as well for some reason. It's not just a brown and yellow sloppy mess. I made it look nice.

still, i wouldnt mess with it. you know they found them fruit flies in outer space right? on a goddamn rocketship! i just hate em thats all...come from nowhere, and refuses to go away.
but if you think you got it under control, go for it! i think the theory might work out pretty good (aside from the nasty flie magnet) so good luck!

oh shit fruit flies in space? Is their any special way to avoid fruit flies if the banana peels do attract alot of them and become a problem?

not that i know of. but you can allways use a vacuum cleaner on them bastards.
i had major problems with them last sommer when i let a watermelon sit out in the open for a lil too long...took forever to get rid of the flies man

Not even close. Chop as fine as you want. Add all the worms it can feed. Still wont support a plant in a container. Now do all this a couple of months ahead of time. Then mix the compost with some spaghnum and perlite. Make teas with the ongoing compost...now you are growing.....

well i composted abunch of random veggies in their maybe 2 months ago, same soil. so i mean what about that? and then this stuff is bound to give off atleast a little bit of nutrients even if i hasn't composted yet. i mean when you boil vegetables the nutrients come out so why not in the soil before being completely composted?

What if or did? WTF? The reason most folks shy away from organic growing is the effort involved to do it right. Synthetics are much easier...

Stink and the rest are right. Wont work and just asking for bugs, shit growth and dissapointment... Compost is great stuff. But once it is compost. And finished compost takes time. In the right bin, 3 weeks. Outdoor pile maybe 2 or 3 months. Depending on how well it has been turned and aerated. Staging a grow to coincide with one another...would be emaculate...

aight i guess i'll just test it small scale. i mean i trust your experience and logic, but i have a theory. i'll just focus primarily on getting a good compost pile done for the future. just growing bagseeds right now so no reason not to experiment.

You got balls! Good for you! And thats honest and sincere. You have no clue who we are. Keep us updated on how its going. One thing. Go easy on the coffee grounds. They are a instant source of N, Iron and a bunch of other things, so go easy on them...
eidt:also instead of adding worms to the container you may consider just adding some worm castings...

I had to laugh at you all regarding the fruit flies because it is so true! I hate those little buggers with a passion too! Shameless little creatures, I had them so bad this past fall that they were humping one another right in plain view! They come back too! We had a few warm days this cold season and I saw a couple of them flying around, I think that they hibernated or laid eggs around the inside windows and the sun hatched them. Your grow area does not need them, and if your "theory" might attract them, give it some more thought first. Don’t kill the worms, use some worm poop instead.

I know a good way to kill most fruit flies if they are in your room or anywhere else.... Get a glass, any size will do. Put a small bit of mashed banana in the bottom with a little bit of warm water. Put clingfilm over the top so it is tight. Pop small holes in the clingfilm with a pencil. You think im winding you up but i kid you not.....

Place it in your room or wherever the fruit flies are and leave it. The flies smell the banana, land on the clingfilm and walk through the holes. They flie down to the fruit and eat it. They then take off and can't fly back out of the holes! Simple yet effective. I must have caught....

well i dont know how many but most of the glass was red and black with dead flies! Maybe they should putone in that NASA rocket ship.... hhhmmmmm i might patent it! lol
