He, I'm thinking about trying out some LEDs or COBs but still not really sure where to begin. It doesn't really matter if it's diy or prebuilt. I currently have 2 1000s in a 4x8ft area. So I am looking at something that could do well in that kind of area. Any info would be great.
8 of builds of this....

We are testing new product from www.ledideal.cz. It has new chips Vero 29 (3.000K bloom and 3.500K grow) and chips CREE XP photo red. The results untl now very promising, I expect to have 1,5 - 2g/W - NFT system, consumption 320W.

Funny, this is very similar to the light I am wanting to create...very nice. I'd be interested in your results.

Hey my first post! I inherited 20 30W full spectrum led's. I am looking to power the all off one driver, as opposed to one driver per chip. The chip data is as follows:
Brand Name: Epileds
30W
Is Dimmable: No
Voltage: 85-265V
Power Source: AC
Current: 1.05A
Voltage: 30-36V

First of all is this a good idea? If so which power supply would work? Seems it would need to be the 600w range.

I am sure this is covered somewhere, if you know of a relevant thread please advise.

Wow! that was quick. Thanks! Any particular reason you say no? For this configuration should i try Cree or Bridgelux?

Epiled is generic shitty Chinese light with zero quality control.

Yes on Cree or Bridgelux.
This man did a comparison of his CXA3070 (CXB is upgraded CXA) against generic Chinese "ebay" epileds.
https://www.orchidsforum.com/threads/amazing-cree-cxa3070-led.13309/

His CXA3070 was twice as efficient as those generic ebay leds.
It was also a weak bin, the normal CXB3070s you buy today their worst "bin" is still 20+% more efficient than the 3070 he tested.

Bridgelux Veros are cheaper than Crees and almost as efficient.
Both Cree and Bridgelux their modern chips are more than twice as efficient as generic ebay leds.

the ebay stuff no telling how they were made ,
if they are 2nds or flawed
grey market stuff & wide price ranges doesn't instill confidence with me to buy there
does anyone have a successful gro with these ? I haven't seen one

Is food for thought regardless as are the comments after the article. This is just bulbs. So I feel it is a lot of information to cipher about these lighting systems. I search the boards for specific words, and finding answers and spotty. This almost 420 page thread is difficult to parse..

I am considering switching to an LED system, of course I am looking at my bottom line, and time, just wonder if we have a page compiled from this monster thread yet? Ive read the basics and understand that 1200w marketed is really 600w and that shitty brands abounds and you get what you pay for. But with all the major and off brand manufactures I am finding it hard to make a purchase with confidence.

I also have an interest in the DIY systems but first need to understand why spending almost 400 bucks for a 200w DIY cree system or what have you is a better value than purchasing a 1200W "diamond" factory built LED from china for 300 and change? What is cob led vs. regular led? Does the quality compensate somehow, does it upgrade easier or cheaper? I do not mind some labor if its practical.

What are the real options for getting into LED's that replace 1000W HID's w/o spending a thousand plus dollars? Its just my utility bill. I am getting letters that I am using more electricity than my neighbors. If I buy a 1500 dollar 800w known name brand light is it going to be that much more efficient than the 1200w 300 dollar Chinese knockoff? Will it lower my bill 70% instead of 50%?

The best option in my opinion would be DIY FOR LESS THAN $1000.

I just bought this mess http://www.ebay.com/itm/111899778373. Do you think that I can configure it to cover a 40" x 80" grow area? I have a Vipar 450 watt that I can cram in there also. I'm hoping to be able to flower under these. I know it's not a very practical purchase, but I couldn't resist the price for 5 units. Hope I didn't just blow 284.00!

They're probably actually 150 watt panels labeled as 300.

4 150 watt panels + that Vipar is around 35 watts per square foot, the little UFO will add a few extra.
Panels are most certainly rather inefficient so will be tight, they'll most likely flower the plants but don't expect a record yield.

Yes, I know better than to expect a record yield. My son has just donated his 900 panel (454 watts) to the cause, so maybe that will help. I also have 6 42w cfl's to add on on the sides.

Plenty of members here have paid the asking price for panels very much like those. That is of course why we are here now. It actually costs less now to find out all about blurple. $284 would be a good investment toward lights by any makers ,that advertise on RIU. Refund possible? Even a reasonable refund fee would be OK, believe me!
