Yes, the pic I post its finished panel. They just send me this pic let me know this is the one I am buying without chips and drivers.

I can't go read all 438 pages just yet but I will excuse myself since in new here. Lol anyways I just purchased some of the old school eBay Mars hydro and they seemed to be doing pretty awesome so I decided to dump some cash and picked up 2 kind k5 1000's coming in tomorrow and can't wait. Original price was 1695 each and after the LED promotion and membership savings I spent 2800 for 2. I have friends who use them and have amazing results and no quality control issues either.

Now I'll get to reading

Im pretty new to this diy led business but in a short time ive been able to learn alot, lately ive been trying to find a way to calculate the amount of heat put out by a cob (heat watts) and also the amount of light being emitted, i guess that would be par watts? Anyway im wondering if there is a formula to get these numbers so i can match cobs to either a passive heat sink or active heat sink. Ive done a fair amount of research already but i still cant connect the dots when it comes to this.

the efficiency figure i believe tells you how much light/how much heat. @56% efficiency 56% of the power consumed is converted to photons and 44% goes to heat.
Dig around in the DIY threads, lots of great information available. REALSTYLES has done a lot of work and testing on LED, and has created spreadsheets full of data for us to use.

Thanks, I'll look into the info realstyles has provided, i feel like this is the last piece of the puzzle that eludes me for some reason and been driving me a bit crazy. Thanks.

So how many 3590 will this new meanwell run? This shtuff is making my head spin today .lost a bunch of links i thought i saved yesterday from threads on this site.
Any idea when this new driver is going to be available?

It depends on the current (amperage) of the driver and how you wire your cobs (series or parallel).
From a simple perspective, the HLG-120 series is about 150watts. If the driver is say 1400ma then it will drive 3 cobs at about 50w per cob. If you jump up to the HLG-185 series it's about 200w so you can add one more cob. The HLG-240 series would give one more cob for a total of 5. The HLG-320 series would mean you could run 6 cobs at about 50w each.

6 per sounds perfect,i want to run em in series.from what i have read most guys wire in series in case one cob goes out your not at risk of cooking another from overdriving?

wanted to do two 3x3 tents (my closet only fits 3x3),
What amount of COB would be just right and not overkill? I'm trying to save on electricity costs while maximizing output. I notice that some builds have the LEDS arranged in a straight line and I feel that is a little inefficient because it doesn't utilize overlapping. Then again, what do I know, this is going to be my first LED build.

I am thinking 4 COB per tent arranged in a square pattern (if i find out this isn't enough I could later double it with a 2 x 4cob bar setup):
CXB3590 3500K CD 36V 80RA

I need it to cover the entire space, max wattage/efficiency per COB possible, so would it be better to run them on the HLG-320 driver vs the HLG-185 ? Or maybe the 240? bleh. This is the only part I'm still undecided on.

9 cobs, 1 per sq ft. 1400ma - 50w per cob but dimmable. 1 HLG-185H-C1400 to drive 4 and 1 HLG-240H-C1400 to drive 5.
This scenario is slight overkill when current is maxed at 50w per cob. Makes a perfectly square pattern in a 3x3 tent. 50w per sqft.

Budget scenario. 5 cobs, 1 in each corner and one in the center driven by 1 HLG-240H-C1400. Almost 28w per sqft. Much cheaper (4 less cobs and 1 less driver. Less heatsink etc). If you felt like the last few weeks of flowering needed a boost you could supplement with cfl or led bulbs. Plenty of people in RIU are growing with less than 28w per sqft with great success.

Research (reading something online) doesn't make you an expert... You sound like someone that did 'research' on the latest and greatest penny stock and is now telling others how to invest in penny stocks.

To me, research is buying and trying different grow lights in side by side comparisons to expose the B.S. marketing claims used by companies to brainwash consumers.

As much as I dislike Mars Hydro for example, I would rather buy 6 of their grow lights than 1 Amare (at the same price).
I recommend them over the ones you specifically claim to use because they are the ONLY ones you've claimed to have tried as someone new to LED.
Who cares about the opinion of someone whose research consists of reading a few marketing taglines and other BS?
People care about what they are getting for their money so don't spit out scientific jargon thinking it clarifies anything for the consumer.
If anything that just confuses them further and they end up making the wrong decision (getting ripped off) and then saying LED sucks.

Buy whatever you want it's your money and spend it how ever you want. I've already been there and done that...I have had my SS-260 since 6/17/14 and am on my 7 th grow with it.....

Stop doing advertising on the best light!There will not do good business.The local members want to build their light.My company also manufactures light on contract in the Czech Republic and I do not write that we are the best.We test COB chips for 2 years and I have a lot of such photos.

I 100% agree. Another thing I noticed from others saying their to expensive, is that they are actually a chunk of doe less expensive then other options based on the PPF & PPFD per watt & dollar. From what I see it takes about 660 watts of another light to compete or about $1500, ($500 more then I paid). Plus they are the first company to use top-bin Cree & still the only company employing the enhanced spectrum through using Cree monochromes. This isn't advertising & I don't understand why when someone says they like this light some poeple jump all over it with hate. This is the thread for those who are seeking such info. No?image.jpgIts no secret & growers should know.
