Just for my own knowledge, you wouldn't happen to know where to find the write ups on those grows, would you? Space isn't really the issue since I have an entire room I can devote to this. I'll be using Panda to wall off the space necessary. I'm more interested in what plant configurations are reccomended with these light bars. I'm highly interested in LST and/or Scrogging, however this being my first grow I'm still wieghing the pros and cons with the risk involved.
I misspoke, let me make a correction.
The old model LumiGrow's had problems flowering, not the new Pro models.
Now with that being said, the manufacturer did release some skewed PAR/Umole numbers for the Pro's that were shown to be exaggerated.

Searching for KIND LED's yields to much sifting. I know the regular recommendations Area51, Hans, Apache Tech, Cree Globes, Black Dog, DIY so where do these fair? I have a 4x4 flowering tent I would like to do for the best bang for the buck. Currently I am sold on 2 XGS-190's for about a grand. So when dumping that type of cash I try to research as much as possible. So opinions on 2 L300's. Pricing is comparable. I prefer 2 smaller lights instead of a single light for flexibility and in case one dies I can use the single till the replacement arrives. Thanks in advance.

heres the bins for those who own the 2012 Area 51 panels, they are powerful, just dont spread as nice as the SGS, and I am sure XGS.. (the distance between diodes, goes a long way.. and withholds intensity w/ Cree's)

Red (630nm)
Part#: HMHP-E3HR

Deep Red
(660nm) - only used for so long as stock lasted, then went to the 13:2 (w:r)

And yes, Area 51 did NOT use Monochromatic blue's in their 2012's..

Good info thnx. Checked out the specs on these. The reds were about 25% efficient, deep reds 25%, royal blue only 21% and blue similar. The whites would have been abysmal, 12-15%. The numbers in actual use might be lower because the specs sheets are based on Ta 25 (ambient temp). I suspect they simply pulsed the emitters so these numbers have not been corrected for Tj. With efficiency this low they would be pumping quite a bit of heat into the small heatsink so we could assume a very high Tj 85-100C? That could knock another 20-30% off the output in the specs sheets, especially hard on the reds.

That leaves plenty of room for improvement for the new lamps to work with. The 3700K XTEs might reach near 30% depending on bin and Tj. Can anyone confirm the heatsink temps in between the fins?
 
I just thought I would post this, I am down here in Tuscon, AZ and the guys at Growers House do some pretty interesting testing. I know that they picked up a spectroradiometer which measure the spectral power distribution in radiometric, and colorimetric quantities to measure and characterize light coming off of a fixture.

In layman's terms basically this little guy can measure the PAR readings from light as well as its distribution. Anyhow with all that said they tested a Black Dog BD360-U, Fero LED, LumiGrow Pro 325, Kind LED L600, a Ceramic Metal Halide, and a 400W HPS setup.

Super interesting results, that Ceramic MH and the Kind LED kick ass when looking at the PAR vs. Watt's ratio. Either way I thought this would bring some good information to the table.

I have 3 SLH seeds under a DIY 3-apollo fixture (an all NW 2012 51 tore down and assembled to a progrow back) running 24/0 right now, and an IR Thermometer at home.

I can give you the heatsinks temp in a few hours, though it is being cooled w/ the 3 PG's fans and not the original ~120mm fans in the 51's

edit: I forgot supra, did you crunch your numbers of the SGS bins? Al i remember is Hans' rocking it.. I can provide surface temps of the SGS as well, maybe move this to my/another thread or remind me where the other #'s are

The 4250k had a range from 77-90*F, depending on where I was at on the fins, 84-86 being typical..

86-88* all around the lenses


For those SGS users- I found 66* being typical on the fins of the heasink, I let this panel run the entire time in a 33x15x72" while I had spent an hour in res changes, cleaning... THEN I took the readings, even w/ the cooler weather, I was surprised.. People looking for a "stealthy," cool running panel, I would suggest that one. Your hand WILL get warm within 8", keep height in mind- but some more kudos to the sgs, have not ran it since the last kids..

Following the thread title, I think a lot of people lurking are wondering how leds compare to alternatives like T5s. I run both ~ 210w led tent and 432w hot5 tent. Both use 'all' white, but the tubes show their colors, whereas the leds less so.

What amazes me how similar the results are, at least in terms of bud size. The hot5 tent has taller clones from same strain as the shorter, which are under the leds

So I have decided to get 2 ar51's 190's to place in 36"x54" flowering tent. I am growing soil. What do you think is a realistic amount of plants that I can flower in there. 1 plant per sq ft is 13 so maybe 12 but damn that seems high. I am a noob so be gentle. Thanks

The number of plants in a tent is directly correlated to available space, light footprint and time allowed/desired for vegetative growth. You can choose how many plants to put in the tent, and adjust your veg time accordingly. 12 is doable, basically clone to flower with virtually no veg, or a similar approach from feminized seeds. Under HID you could get 1/2-1 oz from each plant depending on genetics using this method. Under LED, your guess is as good as mine. Its referred to as SOG (Sea of Green). The idea is to grow small plants with little to no veg times and fast harvests consisting of all top nuggets. Beware that most states make it difficult to operate within legal limits for medicinal growing using the SOG method!

So, you can have 12 plants, 6 plants or even just one plant. It all depends how many strains you want to do, what kind of resources you have for genetics and generally just how you feel about it! It sounds like you have a lot of reading to do, use the forum, there is an endless amount of information available here. Good luck!

I agree with Shwagbag. You can grow most strains to fill up a 3' x 2' area with just one plant. That's what I usually do. Or you can grow a SOG like he mentioned above. It just depends on how long you veg the plant, limited by genetics of course. Personally, I'd grow 2 big plants in your room, one under each light.

In your grow space, I would veg 5 plants (clones or seedlings) for around 4 weeks, top once, and flip to flower.
You're a lucky man, two XGS's are really going to light your tent up, sir.

Well needless to say I'm coming into some money here in the next few weeks (with the help of his 65 watt panels I might add) so I'm gonna order 2 of his 85 watt'ers and add them to my existing 3 65 watt hansled's and have more light than Zues himself​

Bonsaihero, also known as Hans panel is very great. So you have spent 630$ at three of his 65W, and right now are going to spend another 500$ to take 2 of his new 85W panels, it is a lot of money, if I were you I would ask Hans a discount~ What's the size of your growth tent, why are you going to put so many high efficient panels in it? Do not cook the sexy ladies, anyway...

I'm contemplating how to approach a small vegging/breeding area for seedlings, small clones, and possibly pollination. I don't want to spend more than $100 on this, so A51 and Hans are out.

Gonna build a little ghetto 2'x2'x4' grow box out of Mylar-coated Styrofoam from Home Depot, then just hang an el-cheapo LED over the top. Am I best off going the CFL-like route with a few CREE/Phillips LED bulbs, or perhaps one of these Apollo UFOs do the trick? For $70 bucks, I'd be happy if it even lasted a year. Plus it's Prime, so I'd get it super fast. Lot of good reviews for it.
