If you thought MMPR LP's were expensive already ....

Only a few reviews out there right now of MMRP LP marijuana (ive only seen Peace Naturals and Mettrum reviewed) ... some negative, some not so bad. We will have a clear picture of the quality of these companies products as we move into the summer months and more of them start to ship on a regular basis.
Too bad the new regulations take effect this spring. Any new licensed producers announced from here on will most likely not have product ready by that time. That leaves us with literally the 5-6 choices we already have now. Out of those half of them irradiate their product. The rest can't seem to grow, flush properly or meet demand. I'm dreading having to sign up to one of these sub par companies just to receive my medicine.

i saw a video review, they kept having to smoke more just to maintain effect, cost and worth are too very different things, most med growers know they can't buy the quality they are growing already and aren't sure they will find that quality from an lp,

We will have to wait and see I guess. I would be happy just to see the products of those 5-6 in the hands of patients/reviewers right now. Demand/supply is going to be the biggest issue to start I think. Peace Naturals is facing that issue now likely because they are one of the only companies shipping. Some of these companies also seem sorta like small scale operations (peace naturals). Once all LP's start shipping, supply may not be so bad.

Just out of curiosity ... does anyone have any real experience with irradiated MM beyond what PPS produced? The effects on smell, taste, ect. before and after a particular bud had been irradiated? Have there been proven negative effects or is there just a stigma around it because its unnatural and not much testing around it?

Go put some bud in your microwave for a few seconds then smoke it. See how that works out for ya. Gamma irradiation is not good, for anything.

Biological Impurities and Gamma Radiation

The same tests that showed high levels of heavy metals in PPS pot showed high levels of biological impurities prior to gamma irradiation. Tests showed abnormally high levels of aerobic bacteria – more than 1000 times that of organic cannabis tested the same way. Tests also showed "dangerously high levels of molds, including penicillium and aspergillus," CSA said, of which "HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-C, and cancer sufferers may be particularly vulnerable to."
In order to kill hazardous bacteria, the PPS marijuana is bombarded with Gamma radiation. According to Health Canada's website, "The product has been irradiated by gamma irradiation to reduce to undetectable levels, potentially harmful bacteria and microbial load which may cause spoilage of product. The lowest dose required is utilized for the irradiation process (i.e. 10 kilogray - standard level for herbs and spices), ensuring that the chemical characteristics of the marihuana product are not altered."
"Gamma irradiation is a controversial decontamination technique that has never been studied for safety in smoked or inhaled products anywhere in the world," CSA wrote in its letter. "Although it effectively destroys most bacteria, it does not destroy viruses or mycotoxins, and is often used to cover up biological contamination resulting from poor production, processing or handling practices. One of the bi-products of gamma irradiation is the production of Unique Radiolytic Products, which are a new class of chemicals resulting from irradiations that are not otherwise found in nature. Of significance in the gamma irradiation of whole plant cannabis is the potential production of cyclobutanones, which are toxic, carcinogenic chemicals that form when fats are subjected to gamma irradiation, and which have been directly linked to the development of colon cancer in rats. In addition, gamma irradiation has been shown to destroy terpenes like myrcene and linalool, which have known therapeutic properties and are found in high concentrations in some strains of whole-plant cannabis."
So much for "patient safety".

Not all patients are low income, and exclusivity is VERY marketable. Look at how much extra people pay for 'organic' products, for example.
When was the last time you could get your painkillers and antidepressants shipped by mail in boutique style packaging? How long do you think HC would allow that...an expensive looking box with brightly decorated jars of Oxycodone available by mail order? This company is the shining example of why the MMPR, and with it the LP's, will not even get off the ground. The sole purpose of HC's involvement in medical marijuana is to comply with the court ruling allowing us legal access which we had under the MMAR. As is to be expected from any trough feeder in Ottawa, they found a way to create a new tax revenue stream off the backs of the sick, and the LP's, seeing huge profits from captive patients were quick to jump in. The judge hearing the challenge next month is going to see that website and see that the needs of the patient are not the top priority of the LP's operation and do not even factor in the Harper government's new legislation . It's all about the money... And in other news, I just started my next 49 plant crop yesterday
