I'm voting for McCain....

Fuck, who cares how many bills someone has passed? George W. had lots of executive experience, and see how well that worked out. 'Experience' is waaaaay overrated. What is *vitally* important is sound judgment. Like...don't jump into a $2 trillion war without verifying that there's a damn good reason to do it. McCain has experience, and Obama has sound judgment. McCain would love to Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran. Obama might reach the same conclusion, but he'd at least consider the ramifications first.

I called my board of election commissioners today, to make sure I'm on the voting registration list, and I am. So, I'll be going and casting a vote for Obama, and hope that he's able to help our economy recover from the Bush years, just as Clinton helped us recover from the Reagan/Bush years. I doubt Obama will be able to get us to budget *surplus* levels like Clinton did, but that's because Bush and the first six years of total Republican control of Congress put us in too deep of a hole to crawl out of in a mere eight years.

Hopefully Obama will tone down the 'war on drugs'. I'm not counting on it, but hey, he's tried pot, and he knows how harmless it is, and he's at least got an open mind about medicinal use. McCain probably toked a bit too, in Vietnam, but he's probably too ashamed to admit it. Palin tried it, when it was legal in her state (but still a federal crime), and she's toeing the Republican line on the 'war on drugs', as is McCain.

And hey, I'm not rich. Obama's economic plan would tax the rich folks more, but people like me, normal people, would get a $1000+ tax break. Under McCain's plan, the average savings will be like $57 or something. My wallet would definitely be happier with the extra Obama bux.

Basically, McCain is willing to give that difference to the wealthy and big business, whereas Obama would give the *entire* tax break to the poor and middle class. Seeing as I'm neither wealthy nor big business, and seeing as how I could kinda use that extra $940, well, I'd be pretty stupid to vote for McCain.

Gee, I thought the post was self evident, but I guess I was wrong unity.

It was a post of the latest election poling data! Nothing more and nothing less. My ONLY comment was I wished Zogby had been in the mix.

Don't look for stuff that is not there unity. Just keep it simple.

Here are the reasons Obama's getting my vote (and has already gotten some of my money):
1) I'm pro-choice. A prohibition on abortions would cause a greater number of unsafe abortions, resulting in more dead teenagers. Been there, done that, and a return to the pre-Roe v Wade days is not something that'd be good for this country.

Although I am with you 100% on the personal choice issue, I am not at all convinced that the republicans/neo-cons want a reversal of Roe v Wade.

Here's why. The religious right has bestowed so much power on the republicans because of THIS one issue. There are so, so many people who, for whatever reasons of their own, want a woman's right to terminate a pregnancny ended, but ironically enough, many, many, of these people are also very similar, demographically, to the old Dixiecrats--they're not wealthy, they're not educated, and they are screwing themselves by voting in politicians who make bogus stump speeches re Roe.

WHAT IF Roe v Wade were reversed? What then? Where would these anti-choice people be then? What would their role in the political process be then?

The neo-cons do not want Roe overturned because too many of these people would just, eh, go back to whatever they were doing before the republicans starting yanking their chains over this issue. In other words? Many of them would just quit paying attention to politics.

The GOP derives too much power manipulating the so-called pro-life movement and doesn't want Roe overturned.

And even if it was? The laws regarding abortion would simply go back to states rights.

For anyone who wants to know more on how women literally took matters into their own hands during the years leading up to Roe, google THE JANES. Here are just a couple of sources I found doing a quick google search. There's more, lots more, to be found on the Internet regarding this history.

Jane Abortion Collective Oral History CollectionAn inventory of its records at the University of Illinois at Chicago

Jane: Abortion and the Underground

It will never stop, and the GOP knows that. They just tease the religious right voters whose main reason for voting at all is this one wedge issue. Pretty sick, huh? I'd almost say that I double dog dare them to really give it a shot--overturning Roe. But only almost.

Yeah, I think you're right about that, and it really grinds my gears that so many people vote Republican over this one issue, when in just about every other way, the party is against their interests. Maybe I shouldn't even care as much as I do. I mean, I have no children and so have no daughters. I've been with the same woman 20 years, so I don't need to worry about one-night-stands getting knocked up or anything. If abortions were criminalized and they started throwing women and doctors in prison, it wouldn't directly affect me in any way.

But I do care, because my sisters went through the old coat hanger days. None of them died because of it, fortunately, but they were filled with rage that the government was trying to extrude its tentacles into their abdomens, and I guess some of that rage rubbed off on me. And as a matter of principle, I guess I just don't like seeing young girls put into such a terrible position.

But yeah, the Republican elite does use it as a tool to herd the unthinking ruralites into voting against their own interests.

The reason the top 3% look at us with such disgust is because there is nothing left that they need us for, other then canon fodder that is! The jobs are all outsourced to other countries, their profits have been earned, now it's money that's making money for them ! GET IT FOLKS! THEY DO NOT NEED US ANYMORE! The people that vote for them are like the guy that willingly shuffles his own grave before he gets shot.

honestly look at it this way, most soldiers who experience combat come back with ptsd, like me.. i know i am not mentally stable enough to run any country except maybe Afghanistan. now do you want to say that 6 years in a pow camp didn't fuck him up worse than me? those issues are not anything we want the world seeing as our face. john mccain does not represent the averege american, and paulin? wtf is that 18mo in the gov? he's being more reckless acting on ptsd whims.. plus you want any hope whatsover for the end to the war on drugs? mccain is most definatly not your answer. obama may be a dipshit, but mccain shouldn't even have a drivers licence anymore.. presidents shouldn't meet eligibility requirements for social security.

the only one worth while was ron paul, and after 2 consecutive tours of combat i'd like to say fuck the electoral process both suck ass i'm not standing in line.

WORD! It's one of the greatest hoaxes any government has pulled off on its people. Only 2-5% of Americans have benefited from the 8 years under Dick's Bush yet there are millions of toothless rednecks and hard working blue collar, middle class folks who have unwittingly elected an administration that has aggressively fucked them over behind their backs and still these folks sport US flags and shout "yee hah, love it or leave it!" It's actually pretty similar to the dynamics of a dysfunctional, abusive, domestic relationship. It's pure evil genius!

Exactly, and those snake handling redneck "Christian righties, thought they were electing Jesus when they voted GW Bush. I wonder if they even woke up long enough to see that they had been bamboozeled, probably not as they are ready to vote again for the "christian" right, "Palin". I wonder if they passed snakes around at Palins church, It appears to be that kind of venue.

And this is what we've come to? Citizens thinking that the purpose of the federal government is to "benefit" the citizens? This is the entitlement mentality at work here.

The purpose of the federal government is to keep our freedoms intact, to protect our shores from foreign enemies and to promote the general welfare. Where, and when, did "benefits" come into the equasion?
