The Department of Homeland Security has admitted that the Government is aware of cases where foreign manufactured hardware and software has been preloaded with malware before even hitting store shelves. Further more the Whitehouse has expressed concerns over the security of the supply chain for hardware and software. This raises the interesting question, can we trust the hardware/software we take for granted?

I personally remember when news broke about Vodafone shipping smartphones loaded with malware (including the mariposa bot and confiker).

The other interesting question this admission raises is will our own Government start demanding that hardware and software come preloaded with their own malware? Who here remembers the clipper chip?
