thoughts on vegging with pontoons anyone?????

I couldn't find Splifferous video where he vegged with pontoons for reference. Unless that was just pictures in his thread and that thread got deleted

I had my toon on for a weeks or so during vegging and then turned them off. I felt like it really was not helping during the grow phase and that it may confuse the ladies into thinking fall is coming and here is why. I had my lights on 18/6 , when your IG light and pontoon light goes turn off, those infra-red like LEDs light up for 5 minutes.

Those are supposed to help transition the plant from day to night time and I was thinking that may confuse them into thinking fall was coming and did not want hermies.

I would think if you have a 24/0 schedule it would not hurt em.

well I'm vegging under a 420 no pontoon. But soon I'm transplanting them and then moving them in the other room. Then vegging for another 10-14 days. The vpar pontoons don't have 730's. So I'm thinking of running the vpar and pontoon and 2 420's no pontoon. They're on 20/4. I figured do 20/4 for 4 days then 18/6 for 4 days . Then with pontoons 14/11 for 4 days then drop 30 min every couple days to 12/12.

Spliff would veg with the pontoons on and I have done so as well. My last two runs I only vegged for 2.5 weeks and flipped in the same room so I'm like why bother unplugging em all anyway. If anything I think the 660's improved veg but I can't say that with any certainty as I did not run a control side.

I get your logic but remember outdoor plants in a vegetative state are still exposed to a short 730nm burst at sunset so I'm not inclined to believe if a plant hermie's it's got anything to do with this particular spectral influence and like Scar I have not had any of my plants hermie since I've ran the pontoons at veg. I just don't know if there are any real benefits to running them at veg other than I'm too lazy to go unplug them all.

Different red:far will cause stretching when far-red heavy...but I'm pretty sure that was shown in flower, not positive how it would effect the veg growth. But that was my reason for using mine in veg, a little more stretch/vertical growth.

I have a panel that has like 1/4 of the diodes as 660, there is a switch on top of the panel to turn each spectrum on oro off and i have noticed stretch under that panel pretty bad when i turn the 660 on. Though i heard somewhere 660 helps roots that why i tried it. Didnt hurt but i did not have a lot of room to work with after they flipped thats for sure

according to the science journals.. Deep red is supposed to reduce stretching during veg and the opposite during flower. far red on the other hand definitely induces alot of stretching during flower. Since getting the IG 420 in veg (no pontoon) thats the first time I've had any far red in veg. I tried coral wave t5"s in veg but they have a huge spike of 760. The spike is from 680-780. it induced flowering during 20/4 veg cycle with in 15 hours of adding it.

I get virtualy no stretch i veg using the indagrow an pontoon.
i have to starve em for lght a bit to get my autos stretch before flower.

im going to start supplementing red an IR spectra with lil halogen soon.

Maybe I should have ran the toons on during veg! My c99's really doubled in height if not more, probably due to their sativa heritage. I found this comment on another grow forum i was perusing just now.

"Just a quick correction. The 660nm is not the phytochrome switch (Pfr) that puts the plant to sleep....it's the 730nm spectrum that simulates sunset. If you watch their video, it explains that.
They are adding the 660nm spectrum because their induction lamp doesn't contain that vital spectrum that the plant needs in both veg and grow cycles."

So with that and also what you folks are saying I am running the LED's my next grow from seed to harvest.

hey root

i haven't really used the pontoons for veg, in that they were always over plants in bloom...

however... i am getting another set of ladies prepped for bloom, and with nothing currently in bloom, i can try it out. infact, the pontoons are already in position, just need to be plugged in.

so, the set up is some of the last of my soil plants in 3gal Happy Frog (2 Qrazy Train, 3 Big Black Cherry, 4 White Widow), and i've opted to run them in the 5x8 tent again so that i can prep the 5x10 for a 6 plant run of the UC. i was originally cleaning and prepping for the UC run, and was putting the veg UC together in the 5x8 when i changed plans and brought the soil plants in. the 5x8 tent has 2 of the 420/pontoon combos in it, without a mover. the plants were bought in from the veg area on Monday when i transplanted them from 1gal, and have since just been under the 420s on 18/6. i figure after a few days i'll prune them up a bit, and after 2 weeks or so i'll flip them.

This is a 4 x 12 tray running 6 (2,700 watts at the wall) of the Pro-420 Pontoon combo's. Bungs tried different approaches to the his use of the 420's. Like he was keeping his mothers under HPS and then moving over to T5 for cloning and veg. The results at harvest were ok but nothing to brag about. We're on the second run of with this setup with all the mothers, clones and vegging done under straight Pro-420's with no Pontoons and he tells me that each run keeps getting better under all IG and that the stresses the plants had shown when he was changing spectrums between veg/flower are non-existent now that the plants have acclimated to a continuous spectrum from clone - flower. The improvements we've noted have been denser, stickier flowers and deeper colors earlier in flowering than what we had seen in previous runs.
