Week #1 Update
This is my second attempt at the same grow. The first attempt was halted when my landlady (nosy bitch that she is...)heard the sound of a fan in my apartment when I wasn't in and decided to check it out. She "accidentally" broke my 400W bulb breaking down the closet door, obviously the large padlock wasn't enough of a deterrent. Being an aging hippie, she didn't bust me and decided instead to put in her two cents worth; I was allowed to grow only one plant at a time and only if used a money-saving 23W CFL bulb and soil instead of hydroponics that she didn't understand. I ended up putting a few plants out to pasture and kept a Lowryder#2. Surprisingly it didn't come out too bad.
My new indoor grow is in my bathroom. My composting toilet provides a little noise interference against the fans and the grow area is in the cupboard underneath the sink. The inside is all white and aside from a big black pipe in the way it provides an area of about 3 feet by 2 feet and about 2 feet high. The cupboard contains 2 small fans, 2 X 23W CFLs and a reflector crammed into the back. The bathroom is always warm (the toilet needs heat) and you can't hear the fans from outside the apartment.
I'm using some seeds I'm familiar with (Rasputin IBLs) and some GHS females I was sent recently. The Rasputins are Lowryder crosses and only grow about a foot or two in height and at most 6 inches wide. I'm not sure about the GH seeds though, I'll tackle that hurdle if and when I ever come to it.
Germination has not gone well. Its been about a week now and only 2 out of 8 Rasputin seeds have germinated properly. The GH seeds (AMS, Church, Big Bang) have also disappointed me, only the AMS is starting to germinate and the rest have not changed. The germinated seeds have been placed into rockwool cubes, the Rasputins have already produced massive roots and have been placed into a premade organic soil mix in 3 inch pots for about two days.
I know the grow space is severely cramped and can barely support a half a dozen seedlings let alone full flowering plants. I know the lights I'm using are a joke but I'm still optimistic. Then again this could just be one big bad idea. Anyway, I'll send an update when something happens or by next week at the latest.
