Info on Drip Irrigation ,

ok so i have this system going now on my strawberries, its home made and not really advanced, no timers, nothing is monitored (temp ph ...) just a system to get water there, (yes it will be getting upgraded),

it looks something like this

so i am having this problem, the back 1/2 - 1/4 of plants don't get any water , am thinking cuz the tank is too small and the water pressure is to little. what would you guys suggest for more pressure . more height or more capacity , i was thinking capacity as it equals more weight and height doesn't seem to make sense in my head :? , also if there are tricks any one knows to help out , any input would help

Yeah, bigger tank or just make sure it is totally filled. Can't you put a little pump on it under the spigot or something?

Gravity is yo' friend.

a bigger tank might not work, once its half empty it will be just like using the small tank, if the tank was kept full the whole time it should work.

in the pic it looks like the hose is running from the spigot to the ground and then back up a little bit to the drip tape.
if this is true then your losing pressure right theri. i would lift it off the ground and run it straight to the drip tape.

also if their a way to get more tanks? if so you could cut the drip lines in half and run a tank on each one. this way each one has about 50 percent more pressure.

wow, MCp that might just be the best i dea, running two diff tanks, cuz i got a lot of smaller ones , i was thinking about connecting them at the base but your way may save them from defacement, it was running from the ground up to the drip line (not using tape :shock: ) al work on it and take some pics . thx all for the input. al pic a day this week to spend on it and al post the out come

and i have a lot of these laying around , they are bigger than the current tank , so ... option 1 tank.jpg


also got this guy, 12 years old :shock: but never broken down, 1/4 HP i think .75kw pump.jpg

wheni say drip tape i mean drip line, we just call it drip tape here. sorry for the confusion, and ya if my idea does not work that pupm for sure should work

i would dig up earth to put rez in earth.. it will keep water cool and make it easyer for runn off to make it back ... if it has crud in it pumping upward may ware down pump faster

am not sure if the pump is going to be used , fam still deliberating. getting a bigger tank in a few months so if it is used it will be temporary

short of reading the thread i had the same problem once....so i went to way smaller holes....worked awsome....
i would have to buy new drip lines :( but its a thought

Hi mugan,
Don't know if you have it set up this way or not...I try to make my 5/8in tubing a loop in an attempt to equalized the pressure.. .and also adjust using different GPH emitters
And I do not run a sophisticated system. Attach the hose to it and turn it on. No pressure regulator, blah blah blah and it works. You just have to tinker with it to get what/where you want. Drip systems do require some maintenance, especially if your water is as hard as mine. Soaker/misters are a waste of $. They clog rapidly [1 season]. And you should check the emitters periodically.

That 1/2-5/8" weeper/soaker hose made from the recycled tires is good. It tend to clog over a couple of seasons, but don't throw it away, When it does clog, you can stretch it at the location you want watered and it will weep where it's stretched or you can use it as supply line for the drip. You can install emitters w/o using the punch.

well there is a debate going on about it, nothing is to be done till the new tank is here. i got so aggravated i just used the pump to move fish pond water to the Rproject area. am waiting for them to screw up so that i can do things my way ... for now am just tending to the surviving plants which are over 400. so they should still yeild . (the whole back end died ) with out water getting there . the sun nuked them all. so there is no rush anymore :) . got runners rooting to replace tho. tank is coming end of feb. al update whats going on when i know :shock:

Feed rez into middle of drip line instead of end
Second rez at other end of drip line
Setup main drip line in a loop
Smaller/less holes
Raise reservoir

You could also get different rate emitters to balance the flow from one end of the line to the other. There are some pretty cheap adjustable nozzle available. You might also consider catching and using some of your grey water from your clothes washer and kitchen sink. A great way to recycle water...
