How'd it go? He's a great guy, very knowledgable & will help you anyway he can.
He offered me a very nice discount and he is a very knowledgeable person I look forward to doing business with him as soon as the funds become available of course.
Maybe I should mention about the comparison I might have gotten a better discount lol

Well it didn't take long for everything to take a SH@T.... My wood is better than your wood... Blah Blah ... All I know is I have used these lights for my last 12 grows and my Yield , Quality and Density have been AWESOME. I have run journals, done double blind test with my patients, and have had fellow caregivers grow the same genetics under HPS. My AMARE's always out perform them and produce less heat, and cost a lot less to run when you factor in cooling and ventilation. I am not going to say there aren't other lights out there that won't get the job done. I found a product that has one of the best warranties out there. As for customer service it is TOP SHELF. In my book that is the most important, even if it is at a slightly higher cost. Our yields have more than paid for that cost.

I totally admire both of you guys insight, if you're passionate about something it shows, I'm the same way when it comes to certain things, I don't get caught up in who's cobs are better than who's the end results speak for themselves.

Also I'm used to HPS lights so I'm trying to get caught up on all the cob technology.

Please don't take this the wrong way or interpret this as an attack but what does top shelf customer service look like?

As to the other part...there is really only one way to evaluate a tool...what is under the hood? The rest is personal preference.

The fact that an LED light outperforms an HPS at the same wattage isn't really a qualifier anymore. Neither is "it grows big plants". I don't want to pay for your endorsement because I'm not growing in your grow room. If I'm shelling out money for a premade LED unit, all I care about is the parts used and the build quality. The rest is up to me.

Enough companies have come and gone overnight (even good ones) that a 5 year warranty is effectively worthless. Additionally, dozens of sexy grow journals have sold Marshydro lamps.

Does a cob based lamp with supplemental red and blue diodes outperform a cob based lamp that is <75% of the sticker price? No idea. Ive never seen that side by side but that is Amare's competition at this point in time.

You're already 3 steps ahead of 3/4 of the guys that "know everything" here then. Most have never grown w/ hps in this section & claim their lights outperform them.
Notice it's really hard to find a side by side?
Cobs are a bit more efficient now but when they first came out I saw 5 side by sides where they yielded the exact same thing.
Now when you buy one you can determine for yourself.
Efficiency has improved on that but yet there's still no legit side by sides vs cobs that I can find.
I've compared my Amares to my 8k HPS room & they came out on top every time. Documented it here as well. Wasn't a side by side but was comparison room to room under the same conditions, nutes, everything.
That's why I made the switch after a solid year of comparing the 2. Now I'm all in led.
Basically, wheather you go cobs, enhanced (Amare) , Fluence or SunCloak. You'll get great results I'm sure you'll be happy with.
I just personally feel Amare & SunCloak are a good many steps ahead of the rest & I use them. Every extra oz is important.

None taken. "TOP SHELF" it is a generic term used at the dispensary it is the best of the product that they carry. So using it as metaphor it would mean that their customer services is ranked at the top. An example would be prompt service, knowledgeable in the products they sell, understanding the use of the product. Most important is the ability and willingness to "go the extra mile " for the customer even when they have no legal or moral obligation to do so. Their willingness to take a loss in order to appease a customer.

Many DIY builders can build a very good product. It is not any different in the old days of the PC builders where they would purchase their own components and build a very good computer. If you have the skills to do that. Many consumers want "plug and play" they either don't have the skills to do it, or they don't have the time or desire to do so. I can go out and buy a Dodge Hell Cat and know that it is one of the top performing vehicles out there. Yet I can take a stock engine and "build it " to outperform a Hell Cat motor but at a cost. One thing that has always puzzled me is what is the labor cost of a DIY project? It seems to rarely get mentioned. Most would answer it is free, sweat equity... So you are investing your time and energy. Yet I could sign up for a overtime day at work at 1 1/2 and make the money to purchase a product vs build a product which is as good or nearly as good as a DIY. Which saves me the time and energy of building it myself. Especially if I don't have the technical skills to do so.

So to me it is a moot point. A company has overhead and that is an inherent cost. If I buy one widget it is going to cost X if I buy 1000 widgets I will pay Y but at a lower cost per piece, As for grow journals as they say a "picture is worth 1000 words"
It no different when you purchase tools. I can hit up Harbor Freight and save a lot of money on a tools that will work. Yet I have a pair of "CHANNELLOCK" pliers that I have had in my toolbox for more than 30 years. Do they cost more than a generic brand ? Yes they do, but since I have personal experience with that brand. If and when I need another pair, guess what brand I will most likely purchase? Are there company's out there exploiting customers? There sure is, lots of fly-by-nights in it for a quick buck using low quality parts and terrible customer service.

I won't touch the MARS HYDRO comment...

COB's are the latest and greatest LED Tech out there, but do you know that there already is a single LED that can produce 100,000 lumens? It would make every current light out there obsolete but it cost over $100,000 to produce. If your interested do a deep dive into Haitz's Law . What you build today will be obsolete in a few years.

Good post.

1st off.. (and I can't speak for anybody else here) I like building. Its not a chore. Itz addictive as hell, and I love designing a unit to fit my fucked up grow space. So it might take me some time, but itz part of the hobby for me.... Labor is something I don't wanna do. :)

That is another reason I started into this DIY racket. Yes, the tech is changing rapidly, DIYers probably know this, the holderz, reflectorz, heatsinkz, nuts n bolts, wagos, wire and aluminium angle are all reusable. (rearranged) the drivers should last for 5-7 yearz (providing they are quality) And the chips are easily sprung from their holders.

I'll be honest. In 2 yearz, I'll probably be changing the chips out of my current buildz regardless if they are working fine or not just cos of the tech advancement. That upgrade is gonna cost me peanuts. A few new chips..? Sweet! The 2nd hand market Will be flooded. :)

I am familiar with top-shelf, I was just curious as to what about their customer service adds so much value. They do sound a lot easier to deal with than viparspectra or marshydro.

And I apologize, you misunderstood me...

You can buy a premade, plug-and-play "full-spectrum", "plain cob" fixture for <75% of the price of an Amare fixture of similar wattage.

If you were to DIY the same fixture it would be about half the price of the Amare fixture of similar wattage. But I wasn't referring to diy in my original post.

I'm also familiar with how fast this industry is moving forward. Unfortunately with a premade you can't take advantage of that without voiding the warranty

More like EcoSunlite copies. CXA's & Bridglux.
Burple w/ 5k CXA's.(prolly bottom bin) just so they can say CREE.
But yeah, you'll see tons of Amare copies this year.
Yep,

It happens all the time in manufacturing. A competitor will purchase another company's product tear it apart and then copy it with slight variations to get round patent laws. It is a shame but that is the reality.

Not sure where you got your sources from, but these are the actual numbers showing Amare has the third lowest MSRP/w and lowest actual selling price among the premium COB offerings. Only Amare offers a separate cooler veg spectrum and enhanced 95cri spectrum. Also have to consider that the amount of supplemental XP-G3 around every two COBs is approximately the cost of another CXB-3590. The also have approximately the same efficiency as the top-bin COBs.

Amare SP400(Pro4): MSRP$895($2.23/w) with RIU -25% pricing: $671.25($1.67/w)

All of these lights have more cobs than amare and cobs are the real light producers of the fixtures. You're paying over $800 for 3 cxb 3590s in the amare. The CXB 3590 is pushing the PPFD numbers of those units not the shitty low efficient monos. So 3 cxb 3590 cost about 120$. Then about $70 for the driver and those monos are not expensive. Amare is for someone that wants a light that looks cool and colorful in pictures not someone that is looking for the highest PPFD for their dollar.

Glad Amare is giving a 25% discount. I know petflora and hybridway are getting even better for their tireless advertising.

True, they all have only one more COB, but the 30 x XPG3 and XP-E2 is approximately the same as an efficiently driven CXB3590 in terms of wattage and efficiency.

Do you know the wattage the cobs on the amare are driven at? How about each mono?

All the other lights.....which are more efficient also cost less with the 4 cobs...... amare is a buisness build around money not growing.
