Insulating a grow room

I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on insulating a grow room. I was origionally going to put blue styrofoam insulation between studs of grow room. But after pricing the insulation, I started wondering if the pink fiberglass insulation would work. Any thoughts?:leaf:

I'm in the SFV. Desert like temps.

I used 2 inch styro insulation panels from lowes. 22.00 per 4x8x2 sheet.

Pricy but it works.

I use forced ventilation to cool and warm the labs more than A/C and Heater.

Draw from under the floor, filtered and clean. 2, 8 inch elicient fans in flower lab pulling to exhaust the heat out.
Smaller one in the attic.

I foil bubble wrapped and used 1 1/2 inch sheets in the veg lab.

You can use the pink stuff but they foam is better as you can't get mold and what not on styrofoam. I used both actually. foam on the exposed foundation and fiberglass on the ceiling etc. What you really want to be concerned about is keeping the moisture (there will be LOTS of it) from your grow room from escaping into the insulation, passing through your insualtion and eventually hitting the cold exterior walls, condencing and causing problems.

Soooo, you can use the pink but after installation, CAREFULLY install a plastic vapor barrier. Just staple it over all the insulation, sealing it to the floor and sealing it around your outlet boxes, etc. Accoustic sealant is the best option here. Remains flexible and very sticky. Really do a good job sealing and you will have no long term problems.
Cheers.

What he ^ said. The fiberglass will be more efficient and better for sound deadening. But make sure you install a good vapor barrier and tape the seams. My whole shed grow room is done in R13 and never needs anymore heat than the 1000w light. Even when temps drop below 10f. A good thick layer of drywall over the top will also make a good heat sink that will slowly give off heat at night, saving on extra heat costs.

thanx guy, for the imput. The basement that me and my buddy are eyeing fortunately has good winter temps and is dry. I just want to better insulate the room for having better control of envirnment. we are shooting for a closed envirnment. I personally want the foam, but as with all things, cost is a factor. I had a feeling it would be necessary to install a vapor barrier. btw, nice grow shows boomerbloomer57 and legallyflying! When this project finally gets off the ground, maybe I'll post a journal. That way ppl more experienced at this then myself can give input. thanx again community!

You seriously have one of the nicest, most well organized grow rooms I've seen in years, glad to see that there are still some people who take the time to do things right. Awesome job man, best of luck.

Thank you. It's all about cleanliness and control.
