Interesting coco propagation plugs

I was at one of my suppliers a few weeks back looking for alternatives to Jiffy 701 plugs as there's none available from anyone till Aug and was given a box of Van Der Knapp coco plugs. https://www.vanderknaap.info/en/products/rooting/131/fibre-neth/102 The owner says he sells them by the skid load to cannabis farms and they don't want to use anything else but these.

I finally had someone come back and said they rooted like crazy in them, just waiting for photos from that person as they wanted more of these . Problem is my supplier is a hot house and they only want to sell by the skid so trying to convince them to sell by individual box quantities.

Only issue is the trays are bigger than a 1020 flat so you have to cut off one layer and trim the sides but the insert is pretty strong and should last in repeated usage.

Here's some shot of the plugs/tray. I'm gonna see if I can get some more demoed out to give out to RIU users in the GVRD area to test. No price on them yet as they are seeing if its worth selling to retail.

Looks nice. Are they like spongey but firm or do they break apart when squished?

I'll let you know shortly when I soak them. Only have one tray left as I sampled out all the others a few weeks ago. Also gonna visit another green house supplier to see if there are any after market 1020 tray that will fit the plugs.

I’ve been rooting in coco for yrs,just fill empty 9cells and giddy up.

last year i got samples of some coco pucks that looked exactly like jiffy pucks.
if i tell you i was impressed as the roots came out 3-4 days earlier than rockwool and jiffy

Those look perfect.

That is pretty much what I have been trying to make myself. I have coir but no idea what to use as a binding agent which makes them much better IMO. I have some lecithin so maybe I will try that with some powder from the bottom of the coir bag.

a 4 inch growdan cut into 1" by 1./2" cost of a dollar? lol gets you 52 clones
easy and best way really.

Water cloner is free and way less stressful for them. I used to think grodan was a good way, still do if you need 1000's of clones, but otherwise I will use my water cloner.

Lol just fill a large tub with coco, and stick your cuttings in there, you can dig them out two weeks later, separate and replant.

do this in the warm season though, winter is a bitch if you don't accommodate for temperature.

Buddy says he poured in 1L of water into a 1020 tray. let it sit for 5 min and dumped out the rest of the water. They are firm as there a binding agent keeping the coco togather. I'll see if I have time to make a video of one soaked in water.

He already planted them so have to wait a week for more clones to be ready to get photos. I'll see if I can get someone to get me plant matter and do a test run myself.

No need for a binder..just make sure the coco is well rinsed (low e.c.) I then add some hypochlorous acid...
