As the title says - what is the some of the stuff around that is good reflective as well??

I'm stumped. Why reflect the IR back into the grow room?

IR is *heat*

A band-pass reflector sounds better to me. Reflect say 350nm to about 750/800, but let all others through.

BBB he is probably talking about reflecting it for detection purposes. That way IR scanners will have a hard time picking up on HEAT from grow room.

If that is the case you can buy c3 anti detection mylar, however chances are unless you are growing in the attic of your house choppers are not likely to pick up the heat.

there's insulation you can get from home depot or lowes. it's reflective metal on both sides with a thin layer of I think fiberglass insulation in the middle. anyone know how well this stuff works with preventing ir detection?

I bought some reflective IR paper. It's called Easy Grow reflective film. I also completely insulated my grow room with a/c insulation. But I don't think that the insulation alone is enough to block the heat signature that an HID lamp has. The center of it burns at very high temperatures, which is why even in an air conditioned room they can still see the heat signature. Unless of course, you have IR sheeting.

Sorry, but I doubt they can see any heat signatures through a roof that is insulated then through another floor that is insulated... When is the last time on those Cops videos that you have seen FBI still tracking a guy when he went to a basement or first floor on a 2+ floor building.... Never that's right....

Unless you want to count movies but if we're doing that I can bend a spoon (no wait there is no spoon) ..watch out neo!

Area we are @ is top floor with roof above. FOr safety precautions we require mylar reflective material to put around the whole area and preferably with Anti detection on the rear. Nothing like being overly cautious. Paranoia is my best friend at times.

Vancouver police say 90% of the grow ops found in their region are only found because people don't believe in the technology they are using today.

It is a FACT that an IR Scanner these days can sense heat signatures as small as a mouse through 5' of solid concrete.

When choppers fly overhead they will not see a small green flash from your lamp, they will see a giant green glowing house if your grow room is even 1 degree above external temperatures. The only way to completely prevent detection is to reflect the IR signals back to the camera. Please do not listen to the people that tell you your basement is undetectable from the sky. There are now IR Sensors that work at 10,000+ feet above ground and they WILL see you whether your in the basement or not.

I knew it, i will certainly look into some of this stuff - C3?? Im sure there are other products on the market no?

Ultimately your going to have to dump the heat out of your system (no way around thermodynamics). If your in a house, one idea might be to pump the heat with an exhaust fan below the house so the heat can dissapate and the thermal scanners wont see a small hot spot. Another idea is to pump the heat out of a chimney which can be reasonably expected to show up as a heat source regardless of a grow op.

If you have an unfinished basement it's easy to do just find your air duct that leads outside, cut it open and attach a side port to it, then use an expandable vent to attach it to your blower. Your blower(fan) must be on at all times now that you've opened the vent. If you turn it off you will have the exhaust fumes from the vent coming down through your expandable hose. Make sure you put an "S BEND" in your hose to catch any moisture that may fall.

Another way to do it is to basically make a "P-TRAP" like under your kitchen sink. With this method you can have your blower turn off periodically without having odors or heat from your houses ventilation system come into your room. This elbow holds water and blocks fumes and small rodents etc from entering your room via the ducts. The water will also cool the air that passes through it (the more water the cooler it will be). If you put a minimal amount of water into the P-TRAP it may overheat or even boil depending on your temps and air flow. As always keep a close eye on any new equipment in your room for the first few days to make sure nothing goes wrong.

My final piece of advice...DO NOT HOOK IT UP TO YOUR CENTRAL AIR BY MISTAKE lol

sorry bro i apreciate the feed back but he told me it was an exit line his toilet came off with a y connection he said he hooked up to that and never had to worry about smell or heat sig. getting out but on the other hand mabye he is a dumbass and that could really fuck something up im not sure so i ask the nice folks of rollitup for their experience and guidance

there are usually vents for your drainage system that come out of the roof. that would leave a heat sign. every house is different. here, I have a sand mound. the heat would come out of the roof vents and maybe the round concrete tanks sticking out of the back yard. better off with a chimney.

Yes, untold I know it exists... but its use in my area is really nonexistant....where I live cops are more concerned about meth labs

Like I said I know I won't have a problem here for another 5-10+ years atleast... and this is coming from a good source that deals with this specific problem in my area... The technology is too expensive for them and NOT cost effective for them to implement as of yet.

I'll stick to mind bending spoons in the mean time.

I think this is a topic where we could use some expert advice. if it's done wrong, it's pretty much useless. I have plenty of questions and wonders, but it's hard to test what works and what doesn't if you don't have an infrared camera like the police use.

I'll have 3 layers of osb plywood, R30 insulation, and some roofing sheet metal between my plants and the outside. I doubt it's enough, but does anyone know if it is?
