this year there just seems to be a lot of mold already, like it had a real good year somewhere up wind of here, and now its all blowing into the us. i'm having to use hydroguard on seedlings i'm planting in a mix of coco, promix, and perlite, or else they'll try to damp off. new media, never used, watered with ro water, put in pots cleaned with physan 20 and bleach, just took my tents down and cleaned behind them, sprayed the outsides of the tents with physan 20 when i put them back up, cleaned the insides with physan and bleach....i should not be having damping off issues

Same problem here. The last order I received really bad germ rate on all seeds. Even bought some ga3 because I didnt want to lose everything I purchased. I think the seeds were old and maybe not kept in the best of conditions. I got mine from in may from The Attitude. Even the HSO stuff had bad germ rates and they usually germ pretty good.

it might be an old lot of seeds that have started to dry out, or if it pops a root then the root dies, you may have some kind of organism eating them. i was having problems with damping off. i keep the place clean, use physan 20 and bleach both, and have an ozone generator running for one minute 6 times a day. still was having problems with damping off. i tried using a little hydrogen peroxide in my water, and it helped, but not 100%. i read about hydroguard, tried it, and its been 100% since then. i'm not advertising, i'm sure any similar product would work, they're all probably the same thing, just recommending trying the bene product of your choice.

This looks EXACTLY like one of my seeds I germed last week. Once it broke the soil and shed its helmet, the membrane was stuck on the cotyledons. I ended up have to carefully peel it off to open and expose the first set leaves.
i have to do that often, i think seed banks are building up too big a supply, and are selling older seeds to get rid of them

Not saying this is the case but seeds planted too shallow do what you are describing sometimes.

My stalled seeds were in a moist coffee filter and baggie. They were old. But I have had fresh fast terminators do the stuck membrane thing.

Hmmm...I posted my pics of my beans as they sprouted and then as they broke ground after I potted them.

The seed husk splitting is normal and the cotelydon leaves will wear the husks as a helmet at times, all normal.

My babies are now 3 weeks old tomorrow, I have already topped em once prepping for LST and a SCRoG.

I also took two, one of each strain and transferred them to my outdoor 50 gallon raised bed.

Honestly guys...its just a plant...don't overthink them.

Cheers

I tweak a few things when the weather starts to warm up. I use the paper towel method and usually have 3 layers of PT above and 3 layers below the seeds. As it gets warmer I have better luck by only using one layer of PT on top of the seeds. Another advantage to this adjustment is that it becomes easier to remove the seed caps when I've used just one PT on top.

Good luck, BigSteve.

that can happen when its too wet and warm when germinating seeds in paper towels.
also old seeds are often less likely to germinate.

I've only had troubles with seeds that were not in the breeding package example, amnesia og I only got one to sprout and right now I'm trying to germinate liberty haze, started the same time as my blue diesel and she is already in the ground while haze is not changing but she's viable. Free seeds never usually sprout for me honestly

Well finally got this one to germ it had a tap root about 5mm long so I left it in the paper towel over night while I stayed at a friend's house, came back the next day checked on the seed and now the tap root was 5-6 cm long so I put it straight into soil today she is above soil and the two cotyledons have opened up.

I use the paper towel method, 1ML A+B+C fert, 1ML fosilator, 1ML super thrive and 5ML root wizard and I had 30/31 seeds pop, the reason the 1 didn't pop is because I'm pretty sure I smashed it. I also got my seeds from bonza and gyo seedbank. Who apparently have a bad germ rate. I did wel though.

Also, you can use the freezer method. Throw in freezer over night and plant. Grows furious thinks it's spring. Or use the hot water method for older seeds.

When I use paper towel method, I put in a plastic bag then blow the bag up with air and seal it. Actually makes a difference.
