Me and a buddy of mine recently dug about a 5x10x1 foot hole in the ground and replaced the soil that was there with a peice of plastic w. holes for drainage, organic soil, manure, humus, and perlite. Is there anything else that would be good for the soil and do u think that is is ok to leave out for the winter?

it is great to prepare now than you wont have to do it in spring

you should dig 2 foot x 2foot holes

harvest when the plant is ready, or to beat the frost.

by all means prepare your soil for next year and let it sit all winter. that's what i do. as soon as fall harvest is done i pull the stalks, till the hole and add my ammendments. come spring, i till the soil to break it up and plant :)

i say 5' deep and 5' diameter. that's how we roll in norcal. or get a backhoe and dig out a 3-5' deep by however long trench and backfill it with your soil recipe :)

the frost wont help it
at a certain temp
cant just remember what it is but it will be around 43 degrees
the plant shuts down and does not start up again untill the days get back to 70 or so
heavy frost may kill bud then rot may become a problem
light frost some people say it is good for them.
i have had about 3 inches of snow on them one year

I dont think that it will frost until mid or late october.
We plan on pulling them at the end of October.
