Is it really better to cut off the lower/slower/smaller growth? "Popcorn Buds"

I'm around the 3rd week of flower, and the buds are getting big, but the thing is, there are a lot of lower/inside growths that aren't as far along, or nearly as big. I'm growing outside, and it's gonna get cold in a month or two.. I don't want to be waiting around too long, so I guess here's my questions..

1. From everything I've heard, cutting the lower unproductive stuff promotes great growth for the top stuff. I'm outside so I get good airflow, and sunlight most of the time. The plants pretty big and sometimes shades it, but nonetheless gets light. Should I take the lower stuff off outside and let the bigger tops grow?

2. And if I do this, will it help the tops flower faster and get bigger/be done quicker?

3. Will this change overall yield outside or just get you bigger/more potent buds?

I would love to hear some experience on trimming outdoor stuff, and the lower so-called "popcorn buds"

For all my grows I always cut off the smaller branches that won't get most light and when flowering happens I start taking out the little buds that start popping up. That stops the plant from wasting is own energy on those buds. When you take them off you leave the plant with a small wound or boo boo now the amount of energy the plant uses to heal is very very small, So with the little energy sucking buds gone the plant can focus on the buds that are receiving much more lighting thus make your top buds bigger and fuller as for finishing times i'm not to sure.

I use vertical lighting and don't bother cutting the popcorn buds just for the sake of cutting them off. I will however take the growth that is near the stem and clone the plant.

so you'd just cut off the little smaller buds on the inside but not really remove any whole branches right? just the stuff at the lower branches by the base?

remove anything on the bottom that appears wispy, these thin branches/shoots wont produce good bud. Not only will they divert plant energy but they will usually be the first to get mildew.

Totally not worth another thread, so OP hope you don't mind me adding a question to this one to shed a bit more light on the subject.

Is there a time during flowering this practice may become detrimental?

no there is not. You want to do it as soon as you see that they are going to be useless. It gives more resources to the big buds for a longer time.

Cool thanks.. Yeah I basically just went through and all the smaller bud sites that hadn't sprouted pistils yet, and even some with pistils that were in the way of bigger ones and too far back got chopped. Just saving it all so when I finally harvest I can make hash or butter from everything.
