to trim some of the large fan leaves so the grow tips towards the center of the plant can get more light.....its my first grow and my friend was telling me that it doesn't hurt the plants too much and that it will focus on growing in other places......is any or some of this information true.....

I don't snip unless they're dying. I keep hearing mixed opinions about this, so I don't really know. It makes the most sense to me that the large fan leaves are already absorbing a lot of energy for the plant, and cutting them off will only cause stress, not much, but still stress.

I fthe fan leaf is dead, trim it, but if it is green do not. The fan leaves are their lungs and light panels. If you trim off healthy fan leaves you reduce the ability of your plants in the production of copius buds.

You can top your plant, which is actually good for more lower flaower sites and keeping them short and bushy.
