Is LED bud denser?

My first harvest has great aroma, potency, and flavor. My only gripe is that buds were a bit fluffy or airy. I grew with mostly cfl. I have since upgraded to LED for my second grow. I hear that yeild can be slightly lower with LED but buds are sticker and denser. Any LED growers have opinions on this?

led's will produce more yield than cfl's or flourescents and about the same resin production. but it produces less than an HID light with hps or mh would. if your trying to save electricity than LED's might be for you...but i always go with HID's.
if you used both in conjunction with each other you would get the best results. its all about the Micro Moles.

My only comparison so far is the 300w of combined HPS and CFL that I grew on previously and now the 300W LED panel that I'm currently growing with. The buds feel denser and look fatter than they were under the old lighting which I assume is because of the far less heat and increased PAR. Ill know more when the grow is finally over but they are looking healthier right now than what I had previously grown.

These is a blue widow at 5 weeks flowering under LEDs

This is an earlier Blue Widow grown under 150W HPS and 150ws of CFL. Much more airy for being the same age and they are clones of each other.
This set up did produce some good bud (pics below is from a harvest grown under the same HPS/CFL setup) but looking at both plants at 5 weeks the LEDs look better to me.

More yeild with led is music to my ears! I do prefer led for $electricity savings$ and low temperature.

Cant wait to hear your final results with led only as compared to cfl/hid combined.

Unfortunately it wont be apple to apples, I'm going to harvest the LED grow early at 7 weeks so I can start a DWC grow under the same lights. The CFL/HPS combo shown there was flowered for 10weeks.

Dont chop early! Waste of your time and effort!

Esp. since your new little ones will be just that - tiny and not needing much light.

First, LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. You would probably see them a lot in your computers, DVD players or game consoles. HID stands for High Intensity Discharge and it is a scientific term for a situation where the light comes from an electrical arc.

When you compare both of them with your normal halogen light, you will notice they provide better lighting. Halogen lights are normally yellow while LED and HID lights comes in clear white. Both LED and HID motorcycle headlights saves electricity more than halogen lights.
The first difference between the two is the cost. HID headlights initial cost are cheaper than LED lights. You can get a normal HID light for about $500 USD while LED light can cost up to $700 USD. But the upkeep for the HID lights is a lot higher than LED lights. LED motorcycle headlights can go up to 6 years of usage without needing to replace one. HID lights might require a change once a year and it can cost you as much as $100. So if you count the cost for 6 years of usage, the LED light will be able to save you a rough estimation of $400.

I like led's I have never own an hps light but a buddy of mine in college did, it was effective. But that SOB was hot!! CFL's I've done. More freakin trouble than its worth. For them to be effective you have to keep them close to the plant have multiple bulbs and rearrange the plant, constantly readjusting in order to get the best penetration. Also the bulbs even though they aren't as hot as hps or mh they do get hot. Having 5 - 10 bulbs in your grow space will heat up past 90f if you don't design the area to the tee. Combined with the ambient temperature it becomes a pain. Not to mention the airy buds that you end up with, which is disappointing the bud looks big but the density is lacking and when its dried and weighed accounts to a whole lot of frustration and waste of time. Where as what I have found with the LED is that the light penetrates the growth well and the plants really respond to it. Heat.....what heat? I have a 180w led running 18/6 in a 3x3ft box and daytime temps is 75f cannot complain! As for bud comparison with Led's I cannot say to be honest I haven't got that far but it does look promising. I have to say I bought this LED and am not disappointed.

Ok the jury is in! My led buds are denser, harder, and sticker than my previous cfl grow! The quality of the cfl buds was great with cfl, but I can see how they are tighter in formation using the led.

Would you still say led over hps? Now it's been a few years since this harvest..? :)

they do for me.

good LEDs are better than HPS and way way way better than CFLs which nobody should be using at this point

watt per watt CFL is the least efficient >more heat in your space for less light

You will get dense buds with either hps or good quality leds. How dense will depend on your genetics and environment. Sativas are always going to be fluffier than indicas. Weed grown at 35 degrees celcius is always going to be fluffier than the same weed grown at 26 degrees.

lol 2 likes today from a post that is over 4 years old , thats cool. I would never grow a single cola like that anymore lol. It was pretty big indeed! I still grow with 100% LEDs in the flower room, my buds are super dense depending on the cultivar. It's not so much about what kind of light you use but about spectrum and light intensity.
